Anyone have experience taking Losartan for blood pressure? Since being put on this medication last week following my heart attacks, I've noticed occasional emotional outbursts well beyond my normal behavior and anger bubbling up from no where. Maybe two, three times in 7 days. I do have more tragic things going on my life beyond the two heart attacks and add in the Uvalde shooting and emotions are to be expected but DAMN, these were strong.
I have a friend who was on it for a bit and it made him the same, but also suicidal at times and even short memory lapses that came with physical outbursts of rage.
Have any of you dealt with this drug and had similar effects? What alternative medicines did you try, if any?

I've been taking it since my heart attack and bypass 5 years ago and I've experienced a lot of anger and depression which for me is no change at all from before. In the last year or so my BP has been going up so my card dr increased the dose from 25 to 50 to 100 mg.

My ED has gotten worse but I don't know if Losartan is to blame or not. Tried the little blue pill but it closed up my sinuses tight. I would take it and wait until I couldn't breathe thru my nose any more and tell my wife I was ready. Not sure how she felt about doing it with a mouth breather. Fortunately we developed other techniques but I think I already passed my TMI limit.

The emotional issues are the only problems so far but I've only been on it for a week. Thank you for your open and honest reply.

Losartan was the first ARB (angiotensin 2 receptor blocker) on the market and it has its limitations from an efficacy and side effect standpoint. I would ask for valsartan 160mg. I've been on it for years with no issues.

Losartan can cause ED (BP meds in general even), so can high BP. Little blue pill can (often does) cause your sinuses to close up. Did you Dr caution you against taking BP meds and ED meds at the same time? That can cause your BP to nosedive and, if you're not careful, ED will be the least of your concerns. I.e. if you didnt get them from the same Dr make sure they know you are taking both.

I wouldnt worry about TMI, truth is most of this board is probably over 40 and has some sort of the same issues. You could try Cialis as that tends to not effect the sinuses the same way or at least not as much. Might also be worthwhile to visit a urologist as they will have heard everything you said X a million.

While I am fat I never had issues with HBP until after I had Covid the first time. I went for my DOT physical and my BP was so high they didnt want to let me leave the building. I take Losartan 50mg and Amplodipine 5mg daily. This plus a lot of exercise lowered my BP over 40pts.

To you and the OP I did not experience the anger issues but I definitely feel better.

Thank you for this advice. I found some old sildenafil pills at the back of my drawer and foolishly considered trying them. My wife and I will continue taking turns with our manual labors which really work well.

So I assume you are a fellow CDL driver. I retired from school bussing one year ago. When I went for my physical after my heart attack I needed a brief case for all the documentation necessary to pass.

Im not a Dr just to be clear. I know that it's not uncommon to have both HBP and ED meds because I just saw a urologist maybe 4 weeks ago and it was a topic he wanted to cover. I think it would make good sense to let your Dr know what symptoms you are having as they can probably modify your medications. Im pretty sure they would be able to handle the ED issue as well...but as someone who doesnt really have ED and took little blue pills as, let's say a fun party drug, I can tell you mixing them with HBP meds can cause BP to drop real low and my concern at that point was the spinning room and breathing...not erection lol.

I am required to have a DOT Medical Card as I use everything from 26' Box to 28' trailer to 24' Cab and Chassis trucks on a regular basis. Technically we are never over 26,000lbs so no CDL required. Same vision, BP and diabetes screen required though.

Post Covid my BP when I went to test was in the upper 180s, lower 190s.
