I half expected this to be like one of those things where you can buy old military equipment for really cheap. I have a friend that bought an old military Humvee that way for like $3,000, drove to Georgia to load it on to a trailer, and back to then spend something like another $10-15,000 to fix it all and make it street legal and drive able.
I debated doing the same, so I took a test drive of a Humvee. For the uninitiated, the Humvee looks awesome, particularly when it's stripped and open air. I don't care for the H2 or Hummer or the other knock offs, the Humvee was a good design at the time and it's rugged as all get out. And the cool factor is insane.
Here's the problem. Much of the frame and joints meet at perfect right angles. That's great for milspec durability and maintenance. But hit a small bump when you drive it, and that open can of beverage is airborne. And your back will be sore, your shoulders will hurt and you will have some loose teeth. Sure, it will mount a nice .50 cal in the bed, but forget relaxed drives anywhere.
Comfy ride, the humvee is not.
And you'd better have a wiring genius handy for what you replace in the wiring harness.
