Questions...

First, when you are in Waco what is the easiest way to get to the lake? I've always driven out Valley Mills from 35 but I'm sure that one of you are going to tell me that this is the worst possible route. There has to be a better way than how I am doing it. Waco is freaking bizarre how it is laid out and how to get around it.

Secondly, who owns the spanish/ceramic/white stucco home that is right on the edge of the lake as you are passing River Ridge?

Lastly, at some point over the next decade I am going to be looking at real estate in Waco. I love River Ridge but I am wondering if that area is going to hold value. I'd prefer to renovate an older home than buy a new home that is built like crap so that area with the hills and views is very attractive to me. I have no clue though about the trends in Waco real estate...but I always look for an investment and would prefer value in the land rather than the home.

thoughts?

It depends on which part of the lake you are wanting to get to and where you already are.

If you are wanting to get to twin bridges park, Speegleville park/marina/ Slippery minnow, Midway park, or Koehne park, or the corresponding boat ramps, then the best route from I35 is to just take Highway 6.

If you are wanting to get to the dam, airport park, lakeside tavern, flat rock or the other parks on that side (I forget the names) or the corresponding boat ramps, and you are at 35 the fastest route is to take MLK till it turns into Steinbeck Bend to the park or turn on airport road for those parks.

If you are already in town somewhere it would depend on where you wanted to go and which route was the best.

As to your second question I do not know of a river Ridge road, dr, street, etc that is overlooking the lake. I know of one out off of Gholson RD that overlooks the Brazos. If I did I would not post a person's name/address on here. Look up the address and then check tax records if you absolutely want to know that.

Third- not sure what you are wanting here. Waco real estate is doing really well right now due to the Chip and Joanna boom. I think the most expensive home in Waco is for sale still if you want it. I think it is only like a mil or something.

There are some nice pars/areas by the lake out in Woodway that are less known about. I'm not sure many locals even know of them other Woodway and perhaps Hewitt folks.

Loop 340 for South parks.

Lake Shore Drive for North parks.

Waco's Loop basically.

I like to ride my bike (really? I'm almost always on my bike) through Woodway Park into Airport park and the waterfront. It's rare that I see any other person.

What route do you take to get to Woodway Park to Airport Park without seeing someone?

Bleh. That should have been "Midway Park". While several feet near the edge of the lake are technically "Airport Park" on that side, that's only relevant for jurisdiction purposes.

I like riding Woodway a lot because I'm not looking for ultra challenging track. It's plenty uppy-downy, but doesn't draw nearly the crowd Cameron Park does. If I ride from my house and go through a few trails, I can cover around 30mi, goof off by the lake, and be home in time for Scotch to make dinner and enjoy family time.

Is Midway Park reopened, yet?

That park has been undergoing heavy renovation as of late, probably to coincide with the Twin Bridges construction.

Heh. It's bad mojo to ride on muddy trails, so it'll be awhile before I head out again (rain all next week too). My kids are on spring break the first week in March, so maybe I'll get time to ride then.

I suspect the OP is referring to Ridgewood and not River Ridge. The Ridgewood area is nice and will hold up well. Ditto for the Woodway area. Either would make for an OK investment.

It is a nice little place. I know some Baylor and MCC classes do some field work out there and a few groups do volunteer work to clean it up.

I've been there as a chaperone for elementary school trip. I enjoyed it. It's educational.

I just want to go out there and wander around, try to take pictures of birds and stuff. They also stock trout in their "Nora Pond" for fishing, but I don't know if that's part of the naturalist trail thing.

Twice. You'll be glad you brought your camera.
