Buddy of mine bought a new Dodge Ram last August, and this week his brake pedal assembly just fell apart for no reason. He had to use his emergency brake to stop and avoid a collision.
GM and Chrysler have had huge problems with defects and recalls since the bailout era.
Buy Ford. Or Toyota.
According to Wiki, the Ram is manufactured at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico and Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan, United States.
Looks like your friend had a 50-50 chance of quality manufacture. Wait, I have been to Warren, MI. Your friend was screwed.
In the nineties, I was up in Toledo, Ohio for a decade on a project. Actually it was three months but it seemed like a decade. A tradesman talked my boss into trying his dive bar across the street from the Powertrain plant. The bar was called Lil Shebas. Around midnight the bartender starts lining up drinks on the bar. Shot/shot/beer/beer. Shot/shot/shot/shot. You get the point. I asked why he was doing that. He said lunchtime at the Powertrain plant. GM factory workers start piling in locating their stack of drinks. Slam/slam/slam/slam. Back to work. All on a tab.
