We were driving back from dinner at the Gage Hotel in Marathon when we came upon this huge bull elk in the Glass Mountains, just south of Fort Stockton. There were native elk in the Glass Mountains when the Fort was built, but they were hunted out. A rancher stocked some nearly 30-40 years ago from Colorado, but they got loose from his place and are now all over the Glass Mountains. Pecos County has an elk season. Just a wild thing to see and you are still in Texas (but west of the Pecos!!!)
Enjoy.
