Stones and Petty are always my top but one of the best voices in the biz today is St. Paul

Merle's boys do a nice job on this one. Ben (the youngest one) has a great voice, and plays Merle's old guitar like his daddy did.

Let's try this Guy Clark tune...first recorded by Jerry Jeff in 1972, and then on Guy Clarks "Old Number One" album in 1975...

Guy Clark… magnificent songwriter …. So heartfelt….
The older I grow the better the songs are. There are some songs that you like the rhythm, the beat, the music … and then there are songs that tell a story and you became a part of it….

Like LA Freeway, the Cape and Desperados Waiting for a Train…

He was indeed a great songwriter! He and Townes Van Zandt were like the "Dynamic Duo" back in the day...Some of Guys stories about their escapdes are amazing...Guy, like Townes, wrote a lot about personal experiences...their songs don't "wear out", as folks will relate to them by their own life events and memories..

Pretty much my two favorite Texas songwriters. On Townes' recordings the more intimate the setting the better. I love some of his stuff in the Heartworn Highways documentaries. This one is probably my favorite from that. Bonus - Guy Clark music playing in the background before Townes sings and Steve Earle in the background after he finishes. Some of the great songwriter musicians, but their living situations back then (in this video) were amazingly unlike what you would expect from a music star (at least a minor one). I guess that's what gives the life experience to write stuff like this.

And one of my favorites from the other of the dynamic duo here. I love all his old stuff (saw him live for the first time in 1975) but he still wrote beautiful stuff at age 70. This one is not known as much as the old, but I love it. Written about when he got in trouble with his wife for raising hell with Townes.

Guy's wife, Susanna, was included in some of their songwriting episodes. Guy talks about this in several later interviews. When they all lived in Houston in the late 60's and early 70's, many songs and stories were born. It was apparently quite a time for that crew! I think Jerry Jeff and Steve Earle were included a few times in that group too.

Hank is the best songwriter of all time, his songs were mathematically good.

And fk the Opry for having his statue outside and not letting him in.

As Willie said, "there are two kinds of men. Those that have had a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those that don't know who she is."

A nice cover of "Love Has No Pride".

You have probably never noticed but she has great legs!

The Trio, with Linda doing lead, do a great job on this Randy Newman tune.
