As they should have. But this speech is too soft IMO. If I were the Athletic Director, that speech would have been more to the point and absolutely crystal clear: Do, support, or in any way condone this behavior and you are out - out of the school and out all of its sporting events for life.

Yes, from what I read it is less about the idiot doing what he did, we all know no school can prevent idiots, but rather more about the fact the idiot was allowed to go on so long without anyone saying anything. It was tolerated by others for far too long.

I don't understand the audacity of some sports fans.

You pay for a ticket to
1) cheer on your team
2) boo the other team.

That's it. That's the list.

You don't have the right to
1) yell racial/derogatory slurs at the opposing players
2) throw stuff at the players
3) taunt the players after the game

espn put out a nice video interview yesterday with holly rowe and the duke player. Duke girl is very appreciative of what the BYU AD said to her and how he acted as well as of the byu team. She was not using anger/ect and carried her self very professionally. Gave no indication that what she claims did not happen.

just for consideration, my neighbor has 2 daughters at BYU currently and told me that while they enjoy the school and experience, they as darker skinned students feel pretty alone as the school is mostly white students. That said, it is not out of the realm of possibilities that what the duke player claims was said was in fact said. bigotry tends to stem from ignorance
