It's really a shame he was never honored in person at a game for his service.
Dia del DougO said:Highly underrated for his role in bringing Baylor back from the depths. He got the indoor facility started and started turning the momentum of the program.Stefano DiMera said:
His contribution to getting this thing pointed in the right direction is not forgotten by me.
Sure the hits caused the dementia.PartyBear said:I speculate all the hits he took to the head when young as on O lineman played a role.LagunaBear said:
Guy was a great hire at the time.
I can't believe he's only 71. Way too young for this…
The picture of Mark Stoops and Coach Morriss near the end of the article is truly sad to see.Aliceinbubbleland said:

It would be cool to plan something to honor Guy's memory and bring Jackie in for that game, if she was interested. She was a big part of the program at that time, too.Bear8084 said:

Agree. Hopefully they honor him next week at McLane.

Guy started laying the foundation for the success of Briles era and everything since. He was also like the AD when it came to football. He literally reached out to the BMDs regarding practice facilities in campus and started the ball rolling on the athletic facility complex on campus we have now. I'm glad to see the appreciation for Morriss now. As someone mentioned he was quite wrongfully vilified on BFans his last couple of seasons. The 2007 season he was completely sabatoged and set up to have a terrible season. He was passively aggressively fired after both the 05 and 06 season. He couldn't very well resign or he wouldn't be bought out and Baylor apparently wouldnt just buy him out and be fair. Not realizing the strategy also sets the program back. It was just more mismanagement in our history.
Coach Morris was a good man, who came to Baylor at a tough time for the program and restored a sense of discipline and hard work. Captaining the 2005 team under him is one of my proudest moments because of how hard our team played. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. https://t.co/4EwOGrKeBO

Baylor University President John M. Lilley announced today that in a special meeting held this morning, Baylor's Board of Regents unanimously adopted a proposal to construct an on-campus football training facility. The facility, which is being funded with private resources, is expected to be located on University Parks Drive adjacent to Baylor's other athletics facilities at the Turner Riverfront Complex. A final review of the project plans and specifications has been scheduled for the February 2007 meeting of Baylor's Board of Regents.
"The project affirms Baylor's commitment to the future success of its football program, which is expected to benefit enormously from the new practice facility," President Lilley said. "Construction of this facility has been a high priority in the Victory with Integrity Campaign for our athletics program and accomplishes an important component of Imperative X of Baylor 2012, the university's 10-year vision."
The on-campus practice facility means that for the first time in the modern era Baylor will have its football operations located on its campus. Games will continue to be played at Floyd Casey Stadium.
In comments made after the Regents meeting, Jim L. Turner, Chairman of the Board of Regents, said, "Baylor University is dedicated to pursuing and supporting excellence in every area of its operation. This new football training facility will contribute powerfully to the pursuit of excellence in athletics and in particular in our football program."
"The facility will house football operations and integrate the football program into the campus environment, providing a significant boost to recruiting student-athletes and to our football operations," said Ian McCaw, Athletics Director at Baylor.
The project will be funded at $22 million, and the scope of the project could increase with the addition of other private support.
"I would like to thank Baylor's Board of Regents, President John Lilley and Ian McCaw for making the on-campus football practice facility a reality for Baylor University," Bears' Head Football Coach Guy Morriss said. "This state-of-the-art facility will have a positive impact on the success of Baylor football for years to come."
Construction of the facility will take approximately 18 months.
Further details about the project will be released following the February Board of Regents meeting.
