Awful. But it's cool a former player got to give him some joy during the holidays in 2019. Prayers for GuyMo.

Wholeheartedly agree. Guy told our leaders what needed to happen and he didn't sell out. He single-handedly raised the money needed for the practice facility.

The turnaround started with him.

So cool that our QB in that game is now our QB coach.

I remember after the Texas Bowl victory over Vandy I saw a video clip of Bell with his kid saying, "Bears win! Bears win! Bears win!". I wish I could find it again.

October 8, 2005;
Guy Morris won Baylor's 1st ever Big12 road game.

Quote:

Baylor had been 0-37 on the road in the Big 12 and had lost 38
straight conference games overall away from home.

The Bears' last league victory on the road had been on Nov. 11, 1995 -- 48-7 over
SMU in the old Southwest Conference.

What Drew took over was bad for competitive and off the court reasons..but this job .. nobody wanted it .

The BOR handled things poorly in 2016 to be sure. But if Stranger and her ilk had been in charge, we never would have built The McLane. Think about that. She is not a real Baylor fan. She is, however, a faithful old lady girlfriend to FO Bob on the old Baylor fans website. She is an aggy and should be drummed out of our presence.

Guy Morriss' fate was sealed when Shawn Bell was injured at the of the 2006 A&M Game.
Bell was probably the best player in the Roberts-Steele-Morriss era.

We would finish the season with 3 blowout losses.

2007 was 3 steps back as we went 3-9 and were not competitive in conference.

Alzheimers is a disease I wish on no one. Seen it's devastating impact way too close.

But let's not sugarcoat Morris' impact on our program. He was a bad hire.

After the disasterous Kevin Steele tenure, Morriss was a great hire in that (1) coaching candadites weren't exactly clamoring to come and coach here, and (2) he was actually able to get us competitive in the big 12. The state of the program in 2007 was leaps and bounds above where it was when he took it over after the 2002 season. If he had managed to get bowl eligible in the 4 years he was here, he probably would not have been let go at the end of the 2007 season. I liked him personally and I was grateful for his contributions to our school and the football program.

Idk. We were a few breaks away from being 7-4 in '05. Was definitely an upgrade over Steele.

It would be a great game! But it's not going to happen but it's very doubtful that the Aggies will have enough wins to get to the Sugar Bowl.

was at the 3OT game in Boulder.

Guymo did a good job - until that last year.

But we got some milestone wins under him. Started turning things around.

Tran is a good dude for supporting his coach.

I can't believe he's only 71. Way too young for this…

We took OU to something like a triple or more OT in Norman in 05. We were just shy of a 7 or more win season that year and oddly that season (his best but fell short a really good year) was the season that ended up causing it to fall apart for him--because we were so close in several games but fell short. That we didnt pull off turning the corner in 05 (which to think about just the 3rd season out from Steele would have been a miracle) seemed to hurt morale among fans and alums.

I speculate all the hits he took to the head when young as on O lineman played a role.

If I remember correctly, he changed the offense after that to be more like Texas Tech's Air Raid. However, we didn't run it very well. (Imitations rarely work). To me that was what eventually led to him being fired. The team was getting so close. Then they changed the offense and started getting blown out.

I think it was starting to trend downhill before that. I really thought the 2005 season was our dig-in year for a turnaround. Won all the noncon games we were supposed to win, took OU to OT in Norman, won a game in Ames, beat OSU on the final day of the regular season, returned some respectable firepower for 2006. Unfortunately even with Bell we lost an embarrassing game to Army at home, played terrible in Seattle against Wizzou, and only scored 7 in a loss to TCU at home.

Guy was a good dude, well-liked, and was certainly several steps up from Steele. For a stretch there we were a respectably average Big 12 team, which odd as it seems now was a breath of fresh air. I don't think we could've had a Briles-type coach come in without at least a step up from that godawful period in the late 90s early 00s, so for that I'll always be grateful for those years.

2005 Season:

  • Won at SMU - first road win game in over 10 years
  • Won at Army - first road win outside of Texas in a LONG TIME
  • Won at Iowa State - first Big12 road win EVER
  • vs. Nebraska - lost 23-14, finally being competitive against the big teams
  • @A&m - lost 13-16 in OT . 7 red zone attempts=13 points (1 TD, 2 FGs, 1 fumble, 2 missed FGs, 1 TOD)
  • @OU - lost 30-37 in OT.
