Iowa does it pretty good.

Penn state is a tough comparison. Blue blood with a long history of winning. Baylor's history of sustained football success is like 12 years long with some patches in the 1980s. We haven't had a consistent uniform color scheme across sports until like three years ago or whenever they did the rebrand

Matt is a gun-slinger for sure. Not crazy about him calling out fans, but he is from West Texas. I wonder what it must be like going home.

Works at Penn State because their marketing people are smart enough to put the shirt price in the ticket price and leave a shirt on your seat. Baylor inept marketing department fails every year to do this. Then half the fam base refuses to wear gold so yeah it's going to fail every year

Fans like to flatter themselves they make a difference, that they are more than spectators.

Even from the opening minutes the crowd seemed kind of quiet. It could have been how it sounded on TV though. I'm not criticizing the Tech folks. From things on twitter I was seeing last week, they did seem to be fired up to beat Baylor. Like at TCU levels.

Its ok to be wrong (happens to all of us) but this is an easily proven wrong take.

Ask Vegas for more proof. In simple terms simply playing at home gets a 3 point bump. Sometimes more.

Crowd noise also affects officiating on average. Its human nature. It's not all crowd noise, some of it is no travel and familiarity that helps the home team.

Can the visiting team negate the crowd - of course. Stay focused, play better, score early, block out the noise... but there is no denying the crowd makes a difference.

Seldom leave early, never admonish fans (unless they are being vile), always yell loud. Been doing that at Baylor football games since 1977.

I just know that what I do has little impact, like yelling at the TV (which I also do). Look, I get it. We all want to think that what we have spent thousands of dollars doing (and over a lifetime 10's to 100's of thousands of dollars) has an impact. On the field, only the players and coaches matter. We are just here to pay the bills and be entertained.

When fans fail to be entertained, they leave early. Tech fans were not entertained. There are no good fans or bad fans, only fans that find themselves entertained and excited about the outcome or potential outcome of the game. Excited and entertained fans yell loud (see also BU football circa 2012 and 2021). Unexcited and unentertained fans (see also BU football circa 1998), sit on their hands, leave early and don't cheer.

Play on the field excites fans to respond and be loud. I think many have reversed cause and effect even researchers. Correlation does not equal causation. If many fans in the stands yelling loud produced wins, Nebraska would be in contention for a National Championship every year.

Baylor has had at least 3 blackouts in the past decade & the first, vs OU in 2013, was by far the best. 2014 vs OSU & 2015 vs OU were a partial bust because of rain & people wearing ponchos, mostly yellow. In 2016 the team word blank unis (with Sailor Bear stickers on helmets) but it was a day game & the fans were not blacked out. The same is true with 2013 WVU game except that was a night game.

Our record in the games mentioned above is 3-2 (wins in 2013 & 2014).

IIRC, we had one in 2016 when Baylor tried to have a different color scheme for every game. I think it was a day game & was ok. Doesn't pop out in my mind.

I think fans can make a difference at times, if the visiting team lets them. I've seen it happen too many times either in person or on tv.

We wore black with Sailor bear on helmet in 2018 vs TCU at 11am not 2016

I didn't remember the year. I should have. We lost both times but at least 2018 wasn't the total pasting that 2016 was. I think we lost by 40 then.

22-42 compared to 6-9

They did that for a basketball game last season against KU and it was very successful! I love that shirt and still wear it

Thanks for the reminder. That was the Kansas game with CGD. WBB beat Kansas in the afternoon & MBB did the same in the evening. I still wear mine too.
