Subscription numbers for Apple TV+ may in fact be as high as 25mm. I have one, it comes with my Apple One bundle. I bet that's the way most subscriptions to ATV+ work. If you use Apple Music and subscribe to the 2 TB iCloud storage plan the rest (arcade, TV, fitness) are just a couple of bucks, why not. I occasionally watch a show there (Slow Horses was great), but mostly not.

I suspect that most ATV+ subscribers are higher income households already deeply embedded in the Apple ecosystem. Maybe the PAC 12 figures that works for them.

The thing that should terrify P12 is this is an add on to Apple TV.

I have Apple TV and I actually watch it a decent amount. I would watch a P12 game now and again if it was available.

I am absolutely not adding P12 package to watch Utah v. Oregon (their marquee matchup), and then some random late night games. SDSU v. Wyoming on CBS Sports is perfectly fine for late night Saturday night viewing when I don't want to go to bed yet

It's like being a waiter. You get small base pay plus tips. Hard to budget.

I don't think Apple Pac sports will fly nationwide, and probably not even on the west coast outside of the fanatic fan bases.

Without a secondary linear package, that's a hard no for a school with better options.

As has been noted on multiple sources, Utah, OR nor WA have any desire to be a part of the Big12 and look down their noses at the Conference and members. Personally, I would like to pass on them because they could create multiple issues/problems over time.

I do have a question... assuming Big12/OR, WA,UT pass on joining, due to number of remaining members along with little or no Media deal the P12 dissolves... would OR and WA become Independent? Or, financially, could they?

Really does not make sense for them to go independent considering they have each other and their little sister schools (WST and ORST). Cal is probably left in the cold too. If you have 6 teams, you can have some sort of conference. You'll get paid more as a group too. For reference, UConn went independent and their contract with CBS is about $500,000 a year. Yikes! Even a Pac 6 could get a deal at $15m/year surely.

And even as an independent, you still need to be in a conference for non-football sports.

It would be like the MLS season package, which is $80/year or something like that. Nobody aside from diehards is paying for that.

The Pac-12 situation is interesting because you’ve got a bunch of schools unhappy with their revenues from the first time they tried selling subscriptions now mulling whether they should hitch their wagon to selling subscriptions.

This is a total first world problem....but I do not like watching live sports on streaming. The rewind and fast forward features are so much smoother on a tv service with DVR. Those features are really clunky on a streaming service.

Also, on game days I like to pause and flip back and forth between several games. That's not as easy to do with streaming either.

I did the math on the crappleTV deal for the Pac 12. They would need 32.6 million subscribers to get Big 12 numbers.

That's a bit less than 10% of America. That's about how many people are currently subscribed to AppleTV.

Larry Brown Sports reports that multiple sources say that AZ does not want to be the party that breaks the PAC (Larry Scott already had that role) but will leave along with Utah and ASU. Who knows?
They are a year late because the super conferences are gonna happen.

In other words, the deal is what everyone expected it would be and it's totally unacceptable. This is why George procrastinated for a year and it's why the conference will soon collapse.
