Damn .can people stop with the Mack must go? We don't know yet if Aranda is a mistake..but if he is and can't turn this around... doesn't Mack at least get a chance to rectify it?

I'd hate to work under some of you guys.
Mack and Linda ran off Kim Mulkey. That did it for me. He helped make Baylor Women's basketball irrelevant almost overnight. Just taking him a little longer with football.

Just out of curiosity, I watched Oregon State-San Jose State highlights. Wanted to see what the former would look like on a lower level opponent's field after getting kicked where it hurts regarding almost certain loss of P5 status. It was an instructive exercise; the Beavers looked entirely unaffected. I'd add Jonathan Smith to the candidate pool.

He is an ORST grad. So I don't know he may want to be there as a lifer.

Not that I realistically think we are going to have an opening after this season based on what I'm hearing the buy out situation is.

Same. It's mind boggling that those dolts let one of the best coaches in the game walk. I don't care if WBB loses money each year, or if she isn't all sunshine and hugs. You don't let a coach like that go.

He scored with the Rhule hire, I will give him that.
However, If Aranda goes 3-9 (or worse) this year, that will have been too many failures across the board and both Mack and Aranda need to go.

Aranda was a mistake. Was Collen a mistake too? Make or break year for that program.

I'm not sure Rhule was striking gold as several here have said. He split too fast to really know. I'm not sure a consistent annual winner was built. It seems 2019 as well was more a one hit wonder of a type of a season than the start of an annual type of thing.

What expectations did you have for this program after the BOR dumped it into the trash can and lit it on fire?

How many data points do you need?

-Rhule turned a bad temple program into a conference winner.
-Temple won 10 games twice in 4 years.
-He took a dumpster fire here at Baylor and took us to the Big 12 title game in short order.
-He fielded one of the best defenses that we have seen in at least a couple of decades.
-Aranda inherited a Big 12 title caliber team and took them to a Big 12 title. The more of Rhules guys that have left, the worse we have become.

I'm not sure what other data you need to be convinced that Rhule was a home run hire.

As far as his short term stay - people can be butt hurt about that all they want. While 95% of coaches lie and give fans the old "I love it here, I want to stay", he was very upfront about what his intentions were. He wanted to get to the NFL.

Look there are a few of you who worship Rhule. That is fine. I'm not going to argue with you it is just pointless and life is too short. It really doesn't matter to me if Rhule is one of the legends of college football (which I think objectively isn't close to the case) or not.

He struck the pot of gold with Rhule, I will give him that.

If we go 3-10 that's gonna be quite a news story!

He got a 10 year deal last year.

Before or after going 6-7?

That's right! Perhaps an invisible loss will help get Aranda out of the door a bit faster.

You have a straw man argument. You claim he was a one hit wonder, and when I disagree, you go to the extreme and throw out 'worship' and "legend".

You are correct about one thing - we should probably drop this.

Before.

I assume the extension was directly related to the football team's Big 12 title and perhaps to a lesser extent, the bowl win.

It certainly wasn't based on his decisions related to WBB or baseball. Our unranked WBB team was bounced in round 2 about a month before that contract and the baseball team finished 2nd to last about a month after he signed it.

Yes I just did a google search. It looks like the extension for Mack was announced on 4/4/22. It was a 10 year extension. Which I speculate was worth at least 15-20 million over the 10 years at that time. We will not be getting rid of the AD and head football coach at a cost of 55-60 million (my guess based on what I have heard here about Aranda's deal and my own speculation about the value of Rhoades' contract).

So these coaching candidate talks here should perhaps end and should turn more to OC candidate talks.

As we know, nothing we post on a fan board will influence the hiring/firing decisions made on campus.

So whether it's coaching candidates, or a thread about bringing back CAB - there is a certain level of pointlessness to it all. It's all about where you want to waste your time.

I personally would prefer to waste my time discussing coaching leads. I find the process of looking into a coach and discussing what makes a good coach, interesting. I don't find living in the past and wishing of bygone eras "Bring back CAB!", interesting at all.

Kinne's dad was a star at Baylor. Unless you know something I don't, methinks he would jump at the chance to be here.

Let's look at her coaching with the Atlanta Dream

2018 23-11
2019 8-26
2020 7-15

I don't understand how you can go 15-41 in two seasons and land a new coaching gig, let alone one of the best WBB programs in the country.

Whomever made that hiring decision needs to get sent down to the Southland Conference.

WNBA Coach of Year in 2018.

Player revolt over the George Floyd murder in 2019.

Covid in 2020.

Nikki is a damn good coach and is getting her type of players in. This year will be a very good year. We'll be fine.

Her teams got worse each year and you cannot blame 2019 on Floyd, he died in 2020

That's an interesting idea. Based on his failure at TTU, I would say no.
I would give him the keys to the offense in a heartbeat, though.

If we make a change in 2024 Tom Herman should get a look.

He was 22-4 at UH, 32-18 at UT and 5-0 overall in bowl games.

Right now he is at FAU - a downtrodden program if there is any. Depending on what he can do there, his stock may rise considerably.

Willie Fritz when it comes time to look for a FB coach. Our concern now should be looking for a new AD to replace the one who OK'd the $40M buyout for Aranda.

As someone who lives in Duke's backyard, I'll tell you that what Elko has done there is miraculous. The year before he came, Duke won 3 games. Last year, he won 9 games. They played incredibly physical. They matched athleticism with Clemson (granted, Clemson has dropped a lot in talent) and punched them in the mouth.

His OC was Mike Norvell's OC at Memphis. The defense is the scheme Elko ran at A&M.

I'll be shocked if Elko is still at Duke after this year.
