I predicted this from Rhodes a week ago. He probably called around asking for some rich mega donors to buy out the contract but go no interest. So now we get the "full confidence" speech. At the end of the season and we're 3-8 (not sure where the 2 other wins come from), then Rhodes will have to step up.

I'm guessing big money BU donors don't want to have their money spent or the name connected to a program that the BOR destroyed and the media labeled a rape scandal on.

The scary thing is that he really doesn't have to step up. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rhoades update the resume and jump ship while he can. He can point to the 2021 season, the basketball championship, and the building campaign as these big accomplishments of his.

Your final paragraph goes to the very heart of the matter. You could not possibly be more correct. The half life of the Briles dismissal, especially the deliberate, malevolent crushing of any further college coaching position, is waaaaaaay longer than the BOR ever imagined, if that ever even crossed their minds.

This Baylor Alum is with Aranda and Rhoades and believe in their integrity and ability to coach young student athletes in football and life. David Smoak treats them so poorly its embarrassing. It amazes me the class they handle his angry questions and disrespectful tone he speaks to them with. Maybe Smoaky should go be an SEC analyst. He'd fit right in.

Yeah media shouldn't ask tough questions. David should collect your list every week.

Is it too much to ask to have an AD that can form a complete sentence without saying "you know" 4 times? Your job involves public speaking; take a course and improve yourself.

Exactly!!! The one that drives me crazy is saying "Right!" between every sentence. It reminds me of that skit from SNL called Mr. Subliminal man.

Buckle up Boys and Girls he is not firing CDA till after the 2025 season. Mack is to enamored by the "things you don't see behind the scenes". That is bulls*** for I am pleased with the job he is doing. In other words, he is telling the unwashed masses "fans don't believe your lying eyes. Don't let that scoreboard trick you into believing we're not national championship quality."

Well, in the words of Grant Teaff, who lost a lot of games at Baylor prior to finally winning the conference, "Winning: Its How you play the game" Same goes for media folks, one can ask the tough questions without disrespectful tones and attitude.

Which part is disrespectful? College coaches and administrators spend most of their time getting their asses kissed in insulated environments of their own creation. It's not the media's job to sit among the puckerers. It's their job to hold people in high-paying and high-power positions accountable for their actions and performance.

4 times?? You are being way too nice. Maybe 4 times in 15 seconds....When he is being interviewed on Smokey's show, I give him 25 "you knows" before I cut it off. Rarely do I get to listen for more than a few minutes.

I counted 90 you knows in his interview last week. He gets harder and harder to listen to. Besides the copious you knows, there is the constant 'rights", ums, ahs, and irritating pauses. Plus he constantly repeats either a word or phrase 3-4 times, says "ah, ah" before finishing his point. I am sure he doesn't talk to people in private this horribly. Dude needs the Communcations dept for an intervention

I noticed this when he was hired. After last year I was convinced Baylor lost any voice in a room full of Big12 ADs
There is no way he could articulate a reasonable proposal.

That was pretty meek questioning. But either way sometimes they need to be shaken into reality with tough questions. Because the commentary coming out of the athletic program right now is borderline delusional.

This program is incredibly soft mentally and physically right now. Having to answer for it is the bare minimum.

Don't worry people - the care factor is really high and there's some real positives behind the scenes that nobody can see. Give it a year or two and we'll be ready to challenge Texas State.

There is one other point that I have noticed with ADs. He was his hire. He will run a productive Mulkey out, but tolerate an unproductive Aranda because he hired Dave. He would have to admit he was wrong. They don't do that. They blame others and have their paid board minions push the message.

Aranda needs to go back to being a defensive coordinator for a program that rakes in talent. He'll succeed in that setup.

Hey, maybe Texas State will pay us 500k to play... see there is a method to Rhodes system. 500k from TX St, 250k from LIU, maybe get a SDSU to pay us and we covered the Athletic budget. There is a logic...

Stanton did hire Kim Mulkey. Mack replaced Mulkey with a coach bringing a 28-52 W-L record to town.

Aranda didn't screw up our double caramel macchiato with no whip. He is in a guaranteed contract for millions of dollars a year with the expectation he is good at his job.

You'd absolutely hate the Knoxville media. They bash they AD and coach the minute they're hired. I'd agree with UT AD Danny White that they're over the top.

365? They throw softballs and when it's a hard ball it's a season later than most other college towns. Auburn makes up stories about infidelity with their coaches.

Smoak asking an honest question is brutality? Sheesh. Glad you don't work under me. When people aren't performing well you have tough conversations. Tougher than this even.

I'm confused Mack said he expects BU to compete for titles yearly. Yet he's fully supporting a coach whose nose dived the program in remarkable time? Will he feel the same way after this 2-10 season ? If so he needs to go as well

I suspect that the comment the other poster made about Rhoades not receiving much support from the big money donors is true. It's likely that Baylor has exhausted its big money reserves with the basketball arena and fudge center. SMU raised 100 million in a couple weeks just based off of the pure excitement for the program moving conferences, and our program is crapping itself worrying about where it's going to find 40 million. The inverse of that is that the money is out there, but the big money folks don't trust Mack to use it correctly. That is the closest thing you will find in a college athletic department to a vote of no confidence in the athletic director, and if what I posted is indeed the case, people above Mack need to have the cojones to step in and make a decisive decision. Making decisive smart decisions is not Baylor's forte though

Don't matter now. Facilities are funded. Aranda is tied up for a decade. Mack has gotten everything he wants. There is no more asks. I have to believe on the field success is secondary to everything else.

We should be getting close to a Top 10 ranking in "internal improvements". It has been a few years, since wins on the field were getting in the way of this recognition.
