Ridiculous contract and A&M is now paying the price for it… literally. I know many on here freakout about firing someone before the end of the season but it's the new normal. You do it to get a jump on others who may follow suit at the end. Let a coach start building a staff ahead of the next guy. Let him get his portal and recruiting ducks in a row to hit the ground running.

If A&M is smart they'll first look at Elko, Klieman, and Leipold. But they like flashy things and will probably start with Kingsbury.

Don't think the Oregon coach is realistic but the rest have at least one foot on the ground for once. Oregon is just a better brand nationally than A&M. A&M has huge fever in a very talented region with delusional fans but Oregon can recruit the west coast and pick and choose nationally.

As long as the Nike exec is alive that will apply. Now KState's coach would probably dominate. Feels like the type that can bridge the gap between talent and discipline.

Surely Mack wasn't double dipping on dumb ass3ery when he extended the contract after year 1......he had to have included a pay out schedule it we part ways vs an all in 1 lump sum?

glad it is not coming out of taxpayer funds

never heard of aggy oilmen but i suppose due to sheer size of the school there are bound to be some

an auditor needs to keep a good eye on those funds over the next 5-10 years
any under the radar or midnight transfers from the academic funds to athletics should raise an immediate red flag

If smart, Elmo. Kleinman or Leopoldo would be significant upgrade but not flashy enough of Aggy.

At this point, except for money, why would any established P5 coach go there? Like Klieman? If he can get KSU into the top 12, he's in the playoff and he's not nearly as stressed. Or Norvell. The additional spots allow these coaches to stay put IMO.

Something I don't understand about Barnett's comments. He says they are paying him $7mm per year thru 2031, but Aggie might pay him $76mm up front? Why would Aggie want to pay him more up front than they are paying overtime, which would be $56mm plus what is left on this season?

Your numbers don't include the lump sum of almost $20 million he's owed within the next 60 days.

The deal is $19.3 million in next 60 days, then $7.2 million payments annually through 2031.
