I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at LSU as D coordinator. If that team had a halfway decent defense, they would have contended for a national championship this year. Not sure about any connection or relationship with B. Kelly though.BluesBear said:I don't think CDA is fired. A tweet that does not need any actual source. Ground breaking news, if BU fires its coach, it and Arky will be highly interested in Traylor. Of course they would. No source needed. I could have tweeted that and I don't know anyone. If he's so connected, please let us know if we're actually getting rid of CDA.

Traylor is a no until he proves he can win big next year, with a new QB.
-He's had the same QB his entire time at UTSA (20-23) - QB Frank Harris.
-Harris has been at UTSA since 2017 and is 24 years old - in his final year (7!) of eligibility.
-Traylor is something like 1-5 when Harris isn't starting.
-Traylor is 0-3 in bowl games.
Having the same starting QB for 4 years is almost unheard of and has to be a wonderful security blanket. I want to see how UTSA does when they have a new QB for the first time in +6 years. Then, we'll know if Traylor can actually develop a QB or just lucked out with a guy who got 7 years of eligibility.

Interesting point and a good one. I did not know this. That does raise some doubt about that being a home run hire.
He plays in the G5 and that is who we should be comparing him to.BigGameBaylorBear said:
Frank Harris is probably equivalent to your average starting p5 qb. He was lighting it up when he was in CUSA and took a minor step back this year in the American League. He contributed a decent amount to Traylors success but I don't think he's a world beater by any means
I have no clue if Harris would be a decent/average or even worse than average P5 starter. I guess I'm not able to connect the dots of what you are getting at.BigGameBaylorBear said:
Ik that but I'm saying skill wise he's an average p5 starter. You could probably grab a decent p5 qb and they would put up similar numbers
Hell, I think Shapen would turn up in that league if he's in the right system

It's amazing to me how people think we can be so picky.
Traylor is probably better than we can get. Whoever it is will be a crapshoot. But you never know. And whoever it is will be an upgrade.

I haven't had time to really examine their roster to see how many super seniors they are riding on.

I agree completely. It's not like Jeff Traylor only started coaching four years ago at UTSA. It was a different level, but he built a dynasty at Gilmer with all different types of quarterbacks. He knows what good QB play looks like and has been very successful in drawing it out of players in his past.boognish_bear said:morethanhecouldbear said:

I think that is a valid concern. It may be similar to Jameis Winston/Jimbo, Manziel/Sumlin, Burrow/Orgeron where a great QB makes their coach look great.
But....if we are gonna wait a year for him to really prove himself and he does then Baylor will not be the team getting him at that point.
It would be great to hire the sure bet....but what realistic candidate would that be for BU? Given our status in the P5 landscape we are probably going to be hiring someone that's not a stone cold lock.
Unlike Aranda....Traylor would at least be coming with HC experience. Also, I know it was high school....but all of those state title game appearances count for something.
Given the step backwards we've seem to have taken in recruiting with losing Blanchard and others it also excites me to possibly have someone well connected to Texas HS football coaches.
I'm not "ride or die" team Traylor. There are other candidates we've discussed here that I would also be very happy with.
But, if it is Traylor I will feel very hopeful and excited about our future.
Of course...this is all assuming we even have a coaching search this year. We may all end up having to wait another year to speculate.

I just don't see A&M spending 76 million on firing Jimbo to only hire a g5 coach, I mean Traylor is good and all but not the splash hire I would expect from A&M, I figured they would target a current successful P5 coach
Not so long ago, UTSA didn't have a program to poach, and mighty A&M wouldn't have hired a Roadrunners employee to cater a staff lunch.

If Jeff Traylor really replaces Jimbo Fisher, some here will be sad. But it'll show how far UTSA has come.

Sorry - where's the train station in Waco? I got Dave in the car with me since we just left Two Minnies - He sent me a text last night asking a weird question on strategies for how to score this weekend........When I gave him my initial thought, he said Mack said the same thing - so off we went.BaylorLit 01 said:
