A tweet that does not need any actual source. Ground breaking news, if BU fires its coach, it and Arky will be highly interested in Traylor. Of course they would. No source needed. I could have tweeted that and I don't know anyone. If he's so connected, please let us know if we're actually getting rid of CDA.
I don't think CDA is fired. I honestly believe he recognizes he is way over his head and making a move to the NFL is better suited for his skills, etc. He can resigned to jump and no one will blame him for doing that...then the focus shifts to Macky Poo....
I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at LSU as D coordinator. If that team had a halfway decent defense, they would have contended for a national championship this year. Not sure about any connection or relationship with B. Kelly though.

David Smoak is very close to Traylor from when Traylor was at Gilmer and Smoak was radio sports show king of the airwaves in Tyler. I would trust Smoak's take and sources on Traylor.

Of course Traylor would interview at Aggie....the money will be crazy....although the Aggie AD indicated the payday at Malfunction Junction this time will be success based.

I have to think that Aggie's attempt to tie compensation to success will turn off the big name coaches, but I guess as always, the devil is in the details.

I expect Aggy to hire Traylor. In the event that they screw this up and don't hire him, I honestly don't think he would even return a call from Baylor. The negatives have been discussed in other threads, I don't think I need to restate them. No need for Traylor to wade into that situation. He's a smart guy. Better jobs will come open in the next 1-2 years.

I would love to be wrong on both counts.

Traylor is a no until he proves he can win big next year, with a new QB.

-He's had the same QB his entire time at UTSA (20-23) - QB Frank Harris.
-Harris has been at UTSA since 2017 and is 24 years old - in his final year (7!) of eligibility.
-UTSA's #1 WR Josh Cephus (Harris' favorite target) has been playing since 2019 and runs out of eligibility this year (2023)
-Neither Harris nor Cephus were recruited by Traylor
-Traylor is something like 1-5 when QB Harris isn't starting.
-Traylor is 0-3 in bowl games.

Having the same starting QB and #1 WR for 4 years is unheard of and has to be a wonderful security blanket. I want to see how UTSA does when they have a new QB for the first time in +6 years. Then, we'll know if Traylor can actually develop a QB or just lucked out with a guy who got 7 years of eligibility. I do lean towards Traylor being good, because 2 guys don't make a team. I haven't had time to really examine their roster to see how many super seniors they are riding on.

Like a scene between Michael Scott and Dwight Shrute. "Traylor? The head football coach at Baylor is named Traylor?"
"Guess that's why he works for Baylor..."
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

Something else

QB Harris' favorite target and UTSA's leading WR is Joshua Cephus - a guy who has been there since 2019 neither of which Traylor recruited.

So remove the #1 QB and #1 WR who have both started since 2019 and let's see how that team looks next year.

If Traylor doesn't miss a beat in 2024, then I would think he is either at or near the top of our wish list.

Frank Harris is probably equivalent to your average starting p5 qb. He was lighting it up when he was in CUSA and took a minor step back this year in the American League. He contributed a decent amount to Traylors success but I don't think he's a world beater by any means

He plays in the G5 and that is who we should be comparing him to.

He just had +500 combined yards and 6 TDs last Saturday - that's as close to world beater as you can get. I feel he has been paramount to Traylor's success - along with UTSA's #1 WR, who has started since 2020.
BigGameBaylorBear

Ik that but I'm saying skill wise he's an average p5 starter. You could probably grab a decent p5 qb and they would put up similar numbers

Hell, I think Shapen would turn up in that league if he's in the right system

I have no clue if Harris would be a decent/average or even worse than average P5 starter. I guess I'm not able to connect the dots of what you are getting at.

Are you saying Traylor could put in any number of average P5 QB's and have the same results? Well, maybe. But then, why hasn't anyone been able to take Harris' job over the past 4-5 years?

My only thoughts are that I would like to see Traylor prove he can lead the program to success with guys he didn't inherit and who haven't been there for 5 or 7 years.

I think that is a valid concern. It may be similar to Jameis Winston/Jimbo, Manziel/Sumlin, Burrow/Orgeron where a great QB makes their coach look great.

But....if we are gonna wait a year for him to really prove himself and he does then Baylor will not be the team getting him at that point.

It would be great to hire the sure bet....but what realistic candidate would that be for BU? Given our status in the P5 landscape we are probably going to be hiring someone that's not a stone cold lock.

Unlike Aranda....Traylor would at least be coming with HC experience. Also, I know it was high school....but all of those state title game appearances count for something.

Given the step backwards we've seem to have taken in recruiting with losing Blanchard and others it also excites me to possibly have someone well connected to Texas HS football coaches.

I'm not "ride or die" team Traylor. There are other candidates we've discussed here that I would also be very happy with.

But, if it is Traylor I will feel very hopeful and excited about our future.

Of course...this is all assuming we even have a coaching search this year. We may all end up having to wait another year to speculate.

Yep, and statistically it's very improbable that we can do worse than Dave. What are the odds that Traylor has zero leadership qualities. We may not have better options than Traylor, and if we can't get him then just hire any one else with a reasonable contract. There's not a coach out there that we'd be looking at that is as bad or as lost as CDA.

I agree completely. It's not like Jeff Traylor only started coaching four years ago at UTSA. It was a different level, but he built a dynasty at Gilmer with all different types of quarterbacks. He knows what good QB play looks like and has been very successful in drawing it out of players in his past.

I think Jeff Traylor is just a good coach. He'll be a good coach for whoever he's leading next year -- be it UTSA, A&M or Baylor.

People often try to create reasons to talk themselves out of or into supporting certain candidates, but the results speak for themselves. This guy is a winner. He'd be a home run at Baylor IMO.
