Oh. Now people are upset Shapen is leaving when they were praying he would a year ago.

Ridiculous!
This.

Even early in the season, many of these "fans" were calling for him to be benched and not upset when he got hurt and Robertson was the starter. Now they are upset he is transferring.

Some of our Baylor fans are getting as bad as Aggie fans.

I wish Shapen well. He was one of the few bright spots on this year's offense. Sadly, I also expect Reese to enter the portal soon.

Hoping Aranda can bring in a quality OC and we can compete next year.

I hope he can bring in a top OC as well that will appeal Texas HS players with a wide open offense. I've always felt like Shapen was undervalued but I know there were wide, strong opinions on that. Big 12 championship is the guy I think he can be again in the right scenario. Sawyer seemed so inaccurate but I like what I saw last game or hopefully we'll hit it big in the portal

You are in luck Sam....we just had an opening come up.

We can offer you $37.50 in NIL money and weekly Dr. Pepper floats. Let's do this.

What winning programs are looking to add a QB who was the worst statistically in his conference?

I'm not a shapen fan. I think he's average. But on our crappy team, he was the best player at the most important position. I'd be surprised if he ends up being a P5 starter elsewhere unless it's someplace like Vanderbilt. Apparently, he looks good in practice though.

I'm OK with this. I really appreciate the way Blake Shapen competed this season, but I don't think he'll ever be much better than a middling quarterback.

I don't know what Sawyer Robertson can or will do in the future, but I'm intrigued enough by what we saw on Saturday to roll the dice with him or add another portal guy capable of competing with him and potentially beating him out.

I wish Blake nothing but the best. I thought he showed a ton of grit and character this season in the way he tried to lead a bad team through a tough campaign. I hope he succeeds at his next stop.

I'm telling y'all, we need to figure out what Willis talkin' bout!

If we get right OC and QB coach, Lagway lands on campus as the starter. And saves Aranda from himself.

QBR is one rating metric. PFF gave him some high marks in games. They use a different metric. Simply using QBR to judge a QB paints an incomplete picture. I watched every game. Shapen played admirably despite porous blocking and getting hit a lot. I'm not saying he's Mahomes or Manning just that he didn't suck like some on here say. Stats are biased and easy to manipulate. He was serviceable

I agree that Shapen was not cutting it, but I encourage everybody to go look at our quarterback commit for this recruiting class and tell me with a straight face that he looks better
Nate Bennett is a developmental project. He won't even be in the conversation for the foreseeable future. That said, he completed 72 percent of his passes for 11.2 yards per attempt with a 19-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio as a senior. There's more potential there than he gets credit for.

We're going have to go add a second scholarship guy out of the portal.

It may very well happen and it would be understandable....but we will have to wait and see. Scrolling through Twitter I'm seeing lots of players....many from good teams....entering the portal. If we lose a few in these first few days that is probably not that unusual and not necessarily a mass exodus. Although....it wouldn't surprise me.

Developmental projects are not going to save Aranda, but you know that. I do hope that we target a quarterback with more desirable physical upside and athleticism. A quarterback that can run levels the playing field quite a bit

That's far from true. Every lineman would get an offer. Can't have too many 300 pound linemen. Those freshmen DBs get offered. Reese. Pendergrass. TEs? All get offered at good schools.

Sawyer has talent but I totally agree we should try and get the UT backup. It would probably take like 500k to land him tho so I hope our NIL has some $$$.

But there's no reason Bennett should be catching strays in this thread. No one thinks he's going to be challenging Robertson for snaps in 2024.

Hey Bears2Canes were ya at buddy??? I let everyone know this would happen after the K-State game (because the receivers told me it would happen) but according to you I'm just some moron with 44 followers who pretends to know the players. Got anything to say? Lmao I guess this moron knows what he's talking about after all.

As for Blake I wish him luck and I can't say I blame him. Nobody should be expected to go out and play another season behind that Swiss cheese offensive line.

Quit trying to police this message board. I made a comment about Dave Aranda's ability to scout out and recruit some desperately needed quarterback talent. You then proceeded to cite some really mediocre stats for a private school quarterback in California and then tried to act like that was some sort of checkmate. And don't give me this lame excuse about how freshman shouldn't be expected to contribute. We just retained our head coach based on the fact that we have some freshmen on this team that were major contributors this year. Nate Bennett was a terrible recruit in this class. And now I expect that you're about to tell me that Dave really IS good at evaluating talent and that we should be excited about another one of his "projects"

Need to back up the NIL truck to Malik Murphy , since he is now third on the depth chart at UT.
Then get Phil Longo (born April 17, 1968) is an American football coach who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Wisconsin Badgers. A practitioner of the air raid offense, he was previously the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for North Carolina, Ole Miss and Sam Houston.

Charlie Brewer 2.0. I made that comment about him in April 2022, and it's not an insult. Gutsy player, accurate thrower, who happens to get injured beyond the point of usefulness every year.

I wish him the best of luck, and I appreciate all he did for Baylor.

This. Baylor is probably going to lose a notable amount of players in the portal. "Baylor" in the preceding sentence could be replaced with quite a few other programs, winning or not/keeping their coach or not.

The key would be how Baylor replaces those players in the portal, and that's one of Baylor's bigger issues (that, and coaching/development). Given Baylor signed a top 25 transfer class for 2023 and given quite a few of those players ended up in the two deep, those players were needed but it would be important to determine what the specific issues where that prevented Baylor being better (other than said high level issues with coaching/development).

And then the lemmings on this site will read that and convince themselves that they arrived at that thought independently, then post variations of that thought again and again and again until they have 100% confidence that it's true. Then when it doesn't work out, there's a brief window of clarity and disillusionment, but by then there's another premium board article dropping saying that our private school recruit from California with no other P5 offers and mediocre stats is secretly Johnny Manziel.
