Good luck to him. I wonder if he sees that being in the Big 12, SEC, or Big 10 ? If so, he has a steep hill to climb.

He will do exactly what GBo did because they're on the same talent plane. Maybe go for a P5 tryout or two, sour on having to go in as a backup fighting for his spot and settle for a bad/mediocre G5 program looking for a day 1 starter where he can easily win the starting spot by August. And good on him if he can make that work.

Thank you Blake for giving us all you had.

The guy maxed out his ability, never took a play off, and grew as a leader this year. Wish him well next year.

If Blake wants to start his best chance I'd a solid G5 team. And there's plenty the Sun Belt would be interesting lots of talented squads and solid competition

Best wishes.

Baylor football has to do better than Shapen to progress as a program.

What I saw recently in games was Shapen hitting receivers who were dropping passes when he wasn't running for his life. You are delusional or a propagandist.
I also saw him off-target, missing open receivers, and trying to scramble like Patrick Mahomes when he has speed of Tom Brady, and getting sacked for big losses.

Don't get me wrong, I like him a lot and admire his courage, but this isn't a big loss.

I think Robertson was likely to beat him out in the spring.

I like Shapen but wished he'd set his feet and step into the pocket.

Right back at you bro. I am100% accurate.

Shapen had a QBR rating of 46.6, 26 yards rushing and won 2 games.

Sawyer Robertson had a QBR of 48.6 and 69 yards rushing in 4 complete games. Basically the same passer but Robertson is a better runner (which we need).

Do you even know what QBR is?

Shapen played hard and I don't have any problem with him other than he is very average. Maybe he is a good QB with a solid OLine but who isn't? Our OLine is not getting much better next year. It doesn't matter. We will win just as many games with Robertson as Shapen. At least Robertson can run and get out of trouble - a skill a Baylor 2024 QB will need.

If you have football related response give it to me. I am open to hear it. Otherwise lets call it like it is.. you are quick with insults but have no idea what you are talking about.

Aranda is a moron. He's 100% the reason guys will leave. His culture, coaching, development are all garbage

But I thought one of the reasons we kept aranda was to limit the number of transfers and keep the recruiting class together!

He never quite fully made the developmental switch from shortstop. He had trouble setting up in the pocket, mastering footwork, moderating his throw speed and pinpointing finesse balls. I understand why coaches were wooed by him, but I can guarantee you his HS scouting report as a baseball player first convinced a lot of programs who backed away that he would never fully make the transition. And I think they were right.

It was there. He at times held the ball too long and at other times bailed too soon.

I'm not saying I could do better. Stepping into a 300 pound man for a 10 years completion is not for the weak.

Super Frustrating - but I think 80 or 90% of our starters with eligibility left with do the same thing. We are about to have to start over from scratch....gonna be a bumpy ride, wonder if the administration understands how any of this works...

We need to back the bus up to Willis, Texas and find the best QB coach money can buy.

GXG needs to act like Nike trying to get Jordan.

" Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen "intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal" and "is looking to compete for a starting job at a winning program," per ESPN's Pete Thamel. Shapen appeared in eight games for the Bears in 2023 and threw for 2,188 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions."

He was not a leader. He had his moments but far too often he would fold under pressure. I think the biggest problem was his demeanor and body language when Baylor was struggling. It would kill the attitude of the team. Utah and WV were losses but the team played better and harder for Robertson who did not have that same demeanor. When Texas St got to him early it just killed that game.

I don't blame any QB for not wanting to play behind this god awful o line

When Shapen had a decent line in front of him, a good defense on the other side of the ball, some tough running backs and receivers who could catch, he was pretty good.

For his health, he needs to move on. I wish him the best. Time for a change.

Question for Mack: How is going into 2024 with a terrible head coach, new offensive coordinator, and brand new quarterback a recipe for success, unless we're going to land Cam Newton in the transfer portal? Is that the plan?

Sawyer Robertson. I'm not saying he's the right guy… but he's all we got now.

Can he portal out?

Sure he could. But I think it stands to reason that Sawyer is a different case. He transferred to Baylor because of the Aranda culture. Maybe he leaves too who knows, but I think he'll stay.
Unless there is a loophole that he could get through, he cannot go to the portal without having to sit out a year. You only get one freebie transfer, and he is not graduating I don't think.

Why would he leave now. He is QB1 at least until we sign some transfer.

What winning programs are looking to add a QB who was the worst statistically in his conference?

Are you saying Grimes was? (Serious question. Not sarcastic). I think the entire staff needed to go, (Grimes inckuded) but he did seem like the one that lit a fire at halftime of UCF and got the players to go shake hands after last game…more of a leader than Aranda.

Man, I cant belive Aranda is still here! We are not serious about winning. Shapen can play with a little protection. I wish him well

Well, no one says he's kept all his marbles healthy. But the exodus has begun. Aranda is Ramses II.

There were always the Brewer comparisons...and now he's transferring to try and find a better opportunity like Brewer did.

I was surprised when Charlie landed in Utah and even got the starting spot before getting benched after 3 games. Charlie then landed at Liberty this year where he was the starter before breaking his hand in the first game of the year.

Got Mulk?

Oh. Now people are upset Shapen is leaving when they were praying he would a year ago.

Ridiculous!
This.

Even early in the season, many of these "fans" were calling for him to be benched and not upset when he got hurt and Robertson was the starter. Now they are upset he is transferring.

Some of our Baylor fans are getting as bad as Aggie fans.

I wish Shapen well. He was one of the few bright spots on this year's offense. Sadly, I also expect Reese to enter the portal soon.

Hoping Aranda can bring in a quality OC and we can compete next year.
