Aggy was already smoking in the locker room when Jimbo was the coach.

THC is really bad for brain development for anyone under 25 and seriously unhealthy because it prevents REM sleep.

It also can cause psychosis and bring underlying schizophrenia to the surface.

In my own personal experience its highly psychologically addictive and when you're not high you're anxiety is through the roof. You're just asking for chronic panic attacks.

Typical liberal move. Lower the standard and we see the problem get worse. Reality says raise the bar so people will rise to the top.

Bad choices by the NCAA just keep on coming

It's legal in a growing number of states. It does not enhance play, more like the opposite. Also would you rather your injured QB use a CBD product or oxy/percocet/vicodin? I don't partake in the pot but I do partake in this thing called tequila and it's probably worse than eating the occasional gummy.

I would much prefer to have a weed smoker coming at me on the interstate than a drunk. Maybe they should switch booze and weed being illegal.

You are exactly right. We have no problem throwing opioids at them, but they can't smoke pot. It didn't make sense.

I smoked weed a couple of times when I was younger. I can tell you for certain that we do not want people driving around high on weed. I don't have a problem with people smoking weed at home or drinking some drinks at home, but no one should be driving while under the influence of either.

It's now no longer uniformly banned, but the NCAA is still subject to state laws, and weed is still illegal in Texas, so until it becomes decriminalized here it wouldn't have mattered.

What an idiotic take.

It's legal in half just about half the states and should be in all states if we're gonna have alcohol legal. Do you want alcohol banned from players as well? Alcohol is way worse for your body, I'm a nurse and see ETOH patients on a daily basis with massive withdraws and have had call rapids on more than hand full because the patient was having a seizure and choking on their own spit. I also see patients with their bodies falling apart literally due to alcohol. And let's not even talk about drunk driving accidents. But got forbid weed is allowed, which the most I've seen is maybe 1 patient with hyper emesis due to smoking way too much.

Weed is not an enhancer either so it literally does nothing to affect the integrity of the sport.

It went back to Sumlin, at least, and probably a lot before. Cannot imagine how coaches will deal with having pot heads taking inhale pre game.

Not sure this is news. My son is D1 and on his way to be a junior and his coach said 2 years ago the randoms weren't testing for marijuana anymore.
Bottom line if a coach tells athletes "not testing" for it
At least 3/4 of them are smoking without fear.

I don't smoke or encourage but it's about dang time. It isn't enhancing anyone's performance.

I've heard it's effective with CTE and brain trauma which happens a lot with football players.

That might be true. NCAA, however, SHOULD only be responsible for the well being of the student athlete.

I don't believe that to be the case but it should be.

Well pain killers require a doctor to prescribe and be complicit in allowing the addiction to develop and persist.

Weed tho can be bought and consumed without oversight. I think weed addiction will be more prevalent and is a greater threat to young kids than pain killers. We've all had young friends in the past who's lives were greatly impacted by that great and harmless "de-motivator". Medical weed makes sense, lowering standards so kids can get high for recreation is just a harmful idea.

So we should go back to prohibition? I don't disagree weed makes people lazy. It does, but that's for 18-21 year olds to figure out. Part of becoming an adult. No different than alcohol besides it taxing the body less.

No we're not going back to prohibition. We're saying that the NCAA doesn't have to allow weed, and shouldn't unless medically prescribed. Same with corporations, they can boot you for weed use. Weed is the great demotivator, ncaa could choose to have higher standards, I know that they don't choose that but I'm saying that they should.

Just think about how great Josh Gordon and Ricky Williams would have been if they weren't demotivated by weed. Oh wait…it was outdated rules, not weed, that kept them from playing?

i understand the difference facets of the pro-legalization camp, but the reality is that anything that is burned and inhaled is bad for your body

if people are going to damage their bodies based on "my body, my choice", shouldn't those people pick up a bit more of the healthcare tab?

Studies are emerging which show it is correlated (not causal) with heart disease. Extended research needed to confirm a causal link . Marijuana linked to heart disease; supplement may mitigate risk, study reports | News Center | Stanford Medicine
