Four-star South Oak Cliff EDGE Kamauryn Morgan's commitment to Baylor on Sunday has massive implications for head coach Dave Aranda and the football program.

Morgan holds an 81 overall grade on ESPN and instantly becomes the top defensive recruit in the Aranda Era (2020-2025) and the highest-rated defensive prospect since Desoto’s Byron Hanspard (84) in 2018.

According to 247, Morgan has a 93 overall grade and is rated the 16th-best player in Texas and 94th in the nation. Among all-time Baylor recruits, he’s the 10th highest-rated prospect and the fifth-best defensive recruit since Ahmad Dixon (2010, 97), Javonte Magee (2012, 97), Davion Hall (2014, 97) and Andrew Billings (2013, 94).

According to ESPN, EDGE Kamauryn Morgan is the top defensive recruit in the Dave Aranda Era.

Morgan (No. 94) is the second-highest committed recruit in Big 12, trailing only Kansas State’s five-star tight end, Linkon Cure (No. 26). Morgan and Cure are the lone top 150 national prospects who have given their verbal pledge to a school within the Big 12.

The addition of Morgan moves the Bears to No. 7 in the Big 12 in the 2025 conference recruiting rankings; Baylor is tied for second with three four-star commitments behind rival TCU (4).

The Bears’ 15 pledges are at least two less than the other programs ahead in the rankings: TCU (21), West Virginia (21), UCF (18), Arizona State (18), Oklahoma State (17) and Texas Tech (17).

Baylor’s player-ranking average in the 2025 recruiting class climbed to 87.12 with the addition of Morgan, placing the Bears at No. 4 in the league behind UCF (88.26), TCU (87.92) and Colorado (87.51). Currently, Baylor is slightly ahead of Oklahoma State (87.11), Kansas State (86.94), Arizona State (86.84) and Texas Tech (86.84).

The Bears have been hot on the recruiting trail this past week, landing Lorena defensive lineman Jackson Blackwell and Shadow Creek wide receiver Jacorey Watson. Morgan, however, is the crown jewel of the 2025 recruiting class.
