This is where the effects of the altitude start kicking in. Utah puts a lot of teams away at this point in the game.

Back breaking drive there. Lb's are starting to get out flanked and out of position. Gassed out
But they still bowed up in time to keep Utah off the board.

There's a ton to like about this defensive performance. I think we're going to be pretty good on that side of the ball. The challenge now is to find a way to be competent on offense.

I know most people don't want to hear it...but I will walk away with a lot of positives from this game and feeling more hopeful about this season.

But also....more pissed that we have Dave as our head decision maker. He baffles me.

Trying to run Spavital's actual offense like in the first half? Out of the question. I think we could have caught them off guard starting out with some more dink and dunk and gimmick stuff. Finn is not much use passing beyond about 5 yards past the sticks

I am starting to think that this was a very winnable game for us. Two scores for them off our turnovers. And a totally unexplainable decision to not to switch QBs after a horrible start by Finn. Our defense played well enough to win.

I came into this game thinking we didnt have a chance
Part of playing a team like Utah. Already a tough team to beat. Make mistakes and it's unwinnable
Make mistakes and some really rotten coaching decisions. We can fix the mistakes...

100. The D is much, much improved. The secondary is shakier than I would like but the talent, energy, and execution have all clearly been upgraded.

It was more than the points. It was momentum. In this game you take easy pts down by 10 in the 3rd with their QB out.

I agree on almost all points but let's also be real. The weakness is the secondary and there was literally no chance of them being exposed in the 2nd half against a QB who couldn't throw downfield. It allowed us to stack the box. We won't have that luxury against most any other Big 12 QB. But I agree the effort and the apparent talent level on D overall is a big step up.

If we could get 2 minute drill Finn for the entire game that would be serviceable. D is much improved from last year so far

We don't have a weakness in the secondary. We have a weakness at the safety spots. Our corners are good. And the safety weaknesses can be schemed around. Dave's doing a much better job of scheming around them than Powledge did.

;You know, if you take out the first quarter, we are winning!
If you take out two ridiculous plays -- the strip sack and blocked field goal, we're winning. Those are the plays losing teams make, though.

But they are putting up a fight in a hostile place. They could have rolled over.

I am impressed we knocked the QB out of the game, cleanly. Good Ds do that. Hit hard, love it. Not perfect, but we are fighting.
I agree. I'm proud of the effort. Not of the execution on offense, but the effort is there.
Looks like we focused on defense solely because it's the exact same story on offense as last year

I agree, Dave manages to suck the momentum out in the most ridiculous ways possible. He shows no respect for the psychological aspects of the game.

Until we fix the line personnel-wise, we can only make so many rewrites to the story. We've got a talent problem up front.

And yet he was sold to the fan base at the time of his hiring as a psychological master of the game and well-versed in strategy and deep thinking

Why are our guys and coaches playing from about 2:45 like there was all the time in the world? Instead of turning out the sidelines, Trigg turns in. Instead of going to the ground, we are up fighting for yardage in a mob. Instead of calling timeout with about 2:30 or so left, we let the clock run down below the 2 min warning?

Yes. That was a great PI play by the corner, Caden Jenkins, on the 3rd and 20 that ended up giving Utah one of it's TDs.

I'll say it. We need a change at quarterback.

Finn's a talented runner, but he can't run a competent passing game.
