Agree, on the Offensive side. Baylor is throwing the ball DOWNFIELD finally under Spav and Robertson. Grimes' RVO offense is outdated in college football today, it's not exciting nor explosive enough, and will not attract the top offensive players that are looking today to have their talents showcased (i.e. NIL $$).

Aranda still has to go. He was billed as a defensive "guru", even so much so that he had to personally take the DC's steering wheel himself to improve the defense. The improvement simply is not there; is not dramatic enough to support him as being anything special on the sidelines. Baylor's defense still:

• forces and has below average takeaways
• has below average QB pressures and sacks
• shows poor fundamental tackling abilities
• has a defensive backfield that regularly gets scorched, at the most critical times

Aranda's weakness is his player/people motivation skills. He belongs in the box, coordinating schemes.......where he has been the most successful in his coaching career.

I think your synopsis is solid. However, I probably don't like Spav quite as much as you do and don't really "hate" Aranda quite as much either. But yes, solid points.

I probably missed it, but how much of that is the running game versus the passing game? Seems a pretty balanced offense, but we are definitely more 'explosive' in the run game.

The offense seems to have gotten better each week which is the sign of good coaching. As players understand the concepts they are producing better results. Some of it may be lesser defenses but credit the coaches for taking advantage of the defensive weak spots.

If he beats down Houston to get to 7, I think he should stay for now. I understand exactly what you mean and it's a shame we got gutted but nothing left to do but let him bring it back up.

We're buying him a team now and gave him a clean slate. Mine as well see what he can do next year. He's (Spav) has done a decent turnaround and have to give him credit for the hire. Hall too.

I think there's been definite improvement that can't be attributed only to the level of opponent. It would not surprise me if we win out, provided Spavital keeps calling solid plays-ie not passing it 30 yards on 3rd and 4th and 2-stuff like that.

I don't get this...His players haven't given up on him all season, and yet you say he lacks motivational skills???

So many find fault after spending a few hours on Saturday watching a game. These players are living every day and KNOW perfectly what's going on during practice, etc 24/7.
He has kept them motivated all season.

Spav offense needs to be able to run the ball. They played a good run defense today and gained 50 yds more than WV average. They averaged 5.1 per carry when WV was giving up 3.8. I'm impressed. Part of the change was how our running backs went from trying to allude tacklers to looking for contact. In the beginning of the season our guys were tuning 2 yard runs into 1 yard runs. Now we are turning 2 yard runs into 4 yard runs by controlling the point of contact. It adds up. 3rd and 3 vs 3rd and 7 is a big deal.

Blocking up front has been night and day better than at the beginning of the season

When I started this thread BU was 30th in Scoring Offense....we have now moved up to 23rd.

The Oklahoma Sooners are a hot mess right now, especially offensively.

They’re at the bottom of the SEC in most offensive categories, so will Brent Venables look to Baylor so he can pry away the coach life preserver, Jake Spavital?

It would be risky for him to leave Baylor for OU given Venables hot seat, so OU would probably not only have to offer a high salary but also a multi year contract with a large buyout.
