He's not going to parlay Nebraska into a better college gig. If he can take them (a big if btw) to the mountaintop, he's going to try to get back to the NFL. If the NFL still doesn't come calling, he has every incentive to stay and zero incentive to leave.

I know Rhule played there and I think he coached there for a short time? Maybe that would be a draw for him. That would also mean that either Franklin moved on or was fired. Based on his recent coaching, I don't see Franklin getting fired any time soon.

I certainly don't see him leaving for MSU - that seems bizarre to me.

Thank you. The turn around at Baylor is way overplayed. He turnt this program into complete dog **** before the "turn around". Maybe he just improved upon the cluster that he created here

He salvaged this program and set it up for a Big XII title.

We knew his aspirations when he came here.

We were both a victim and benefactor of his success.

He has no ill will towards us, and we certainly should have none towards him.

God bless us both.

The amount of pathetic, whiny-ass butthurt people still have on this board about Rhule is truly astonishing.

He did not turn around Baylor. He took a bowl team and destroyed it. All he did was eventually get it back to where it was when he found it.

Where can he win in the B10 or SEC? That is really the criteria. Can you win a Mich St more than Nebraska? You may be right. Seems like a push at best.

Maybe a Wisky, I can see him fitting the Alverez model and Fickell is not the answer. He wasn't at OSU, if you can't win at OSU... Cinn was lightning in a bottle for one year.

I can see PSU. But really that is all. I can't see him in the SEC, just strikes me as a B10 type. My impressions.

Matt Rhule has a history of chasing the money, college, pro, or otherwise. He will end his career leveraging any success (should he have more) or memory of his success by hopping schools and seeking bigger, longer contracts. His commitment to anyone is temporary and transitory based upon leverage for money. How the market values him so much based on his brief stint at BU is a good sign the market is desperate and no coaching hire or fire is sure to produce results. Exhibit A just today Tom Herman fired. Remember when he was the up and coming coach every school chased. Rhule had a rare event at BU where every call (wasn't he coach when tech beat us and refs just decided to give us the ball) and every bounce of the ball went his way for a brief period (See Tcu natty game season for repeat of Lady Luck, beat us on split second field goal). Neither Rhule nor Tcu demonstrated sustained success, nor high level recruiting as a result of previous success. But a desperate market will crown any clown a king of coaching wout justified results behind the decisions made by ADs in efforts to save their own necks and the necks of college presidents. The media demands a hire that markets well or university brass are left with egg on their face. And no one ever gives a coach time to adjust and develop as fans, like ours, start screaming after one loss as if some obvious answer we're waiting in the wings to rescue us. Thus, even bigger more burdensome contracts are signed that mortgage away future NIL money and success.

Best path, hire a smart coach, adjust to nil area, and give coach time to develop. Throwing money away is no longer an option when courts have mandated 20 mil in past payments for schools for a decade to come. Rhule will be Rhule, smoke and mirrors, preach a sermon, and get leverage for money. Arranda, well let's give this genius time to learn on our dollar vs. time to find a great DC job on OUR dollar. Things are looking up in Waco and down in Nebraska. I like the future for Arranda at BU.

Back in the day, each Nebraska county created a scholarship. It seems like all these were directed to UN. Amazingly many of these scholarships went to big linemen that could come in, RS, lift/eat/grow into your typical Neb OL.

Didn't count against the NCAA scholarship limits since they were "walk-ons" and on "academic" scholarships.

If I remember correctly, wasn't it a JR College on campus?

I have a friend who is a die-hard Cornhusker. Lives, eats, breathes, and contributes lots of money to it. After last Saturday he was cloud screaming "move us back to the Big12!!". Why? He admits Nebraska will never be anybody or anything in the B10... at best an occasional spoiler. But not a contender. Why? Logistics. Politics. Other dynamics. He wants the old days back... and I don't blame him.

But I also don't feel sorry for him.

Nebraska, like much of the B1G due to recruiting geography and unlike the hey days due to rule changes, is not a location where it's easy to win at a very high level. Nebraska will eventually become a perennial bowl program one way or another, but recent conference realignment has lowered their ceiling from where it was and its alumni will need to come to terms with that.

Realistically, as their history fades into distant memory it is sort of in the same geographical hole as Washington State.
