We would get Vandy. Sankey isn't gonna expose a bigger SEC brand to a Big 12 team, if he can help it.
He can't hide them all except Vandy. They've got to pop up somewhere.

This has already been explained. The Alamo was set up for a PAC 12 - Big 12 matchup. Since Colorado came over from the PAC, they would represent that side of it. And since the two didn't play, the game makes sense. Doesn't mean they would do that, but it is not something to use to ridicule the writer.

Since Aggy left the B12 in 2012 they have gotten matched up with a B12 team in a bowl 5 times. So it doesn't look like they're being protected from facing the B12.

Pac 12 had 6 guaranteed bowl slots when it imploded, and at least for this year any Pac 12 school (regardless of new conference) has first dibs on them:

Alamo v B12
Holiday v ACC
Las Vegas v SEC
LA v MWC
Sun v ACC
Independence v ACC/AAC

The biggest problem with the Pac 12 is that of the 12 former teams, 5 had losing records, 3 more finished 6-6, and Oregon and possibly Arizona St will go to the CFP, leaving only 8-4 WashSt and 9-3 Colorado to fill a "good" bowl slot (i.e., Alamo or Holiday). WashSt looked like a lock for Alamo 3 weeks ago when they were 8-1 but before they faceplanted against 5-7 New Mexico and 3-9 Wyoming, so Alamo is kinda left with no choice but Colorado.

Holiday will probably take WashSt unless ArizSt loses to IowaSt. Alamo might pass on ArizSt since they have already played BYU this year.

True, but they have conveniently never played a former SWC team from Texas.

2013 Cotton v. OU
2014 Liberty v. WV
2016 Texas v. KSt
2019 Texas v. OkSt
2023 Texas v. OkSt

The chances of Aggy being sent back to Houston are lessened more by the fact they have played there 3 times in the last 9 years, including 2 years ago. Wouldn't be surprised to see them end up in Music City or Las Vegas instead.

I think A&M has the longest active winning streak over an opponent in TCU.

aggy has a 24 game winning streak over TCU since 1973...but the 2 have not played since the 2001 galleryfurniture.com bowl due to conference realignments.

aggy has escaped playing TCU during their resurgence. i hope TCU gets a chance to end that streak.

Why though? I'd rather see us play teams that are better than us. Can't be the best if you can't hang with the big boys. Time for our guys to grow up some more.

Because those teams by that point won't be better than us. LSU as an example today alone. Campbell LT has declared, sitting out Bowl. 2nd best wideout entered the portal. These teams are shells of themselves by the time the games played. The Tulane/Armys etc bring full squads who are motivated. The LSUs of the world will bring unmotivated skeleton squads.
And there's nothing to suggest Arkansas as an example is better than Tulane or Army. In fact I'd argue those 2 are better teams than Arky

I am really hoping for the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop though.

Does the b12 still have a tie in to the holiday bowl?
No. It's Pac 12 v. ACC.
I wonder with the collaspe of Pac 12 if that tie in is now void? It is a great bowl. Best bowl trip we had.

I'm OK beating the hell out of their JV teams and letting them make their little excuses -- as Kansas State did to LSU a few years back.

Control what we can control, and if they don't like playing football enough to show up for that game, that's their problem.

Huh, here's one I hadn't seen yet. Bleacher Report writer has us in the Pop-Tart Bowl vs. Georgia Tech. This would be a shame if Kansas State got to play LSU in the Texas Bowl instead. No disrespect to GT, but this isn't an appealing matchup, at all.

It's clearly an outlier as the bowl website doesn't have Baylor in their projections at all.

They're a good, physical football team that has played a tough schedule and performed pretty well against it.

I would be fine with that matchup.

Bowls are all about trying to monetize the event. A&M vs Baylor would have great turnout and thus money.

Smaller bowls have a smaller pool to pick from so the matchups can look like Baylor vs Rutgers.

No, he is more than that at TCU. The entire campus is an extension of hell.

I don't know who will be coaching WVU in their bowl game… But they will have their hands full with Memphis. They just knocked off a good Tulane team to finish 10-2.

I can't remember which one… But I heard another low ranking bowl announced yesterday. It surprised me also.

I'm guessing the bigger bowls wait until Sunday. So hopefully we don't hear anything until Sunday.

Big12 has 9 bowl eligible teams and only 7-8 guaranteed slots (including CFP). WV was the bottom of the list as the only 6-6 team in the Big12, so they weren't going to get one of the guaranteed slots. The bowls that are announcing early are ones with conference affiliations that won't otherwise get filled and that can pick up teams like WV.

Good for USF. They will get to enjoy the palm trees, warm weather and gentle sea breezes of Hawaii instead of being stuck with the palm trees, warm weather and gentle sea breezes of Florida.

FWIW. A player told my son in class today he believes it will be Texas Bowl vs A&M.

I could go a lifetime and not hear the awful Aggie war hymn and be happy. But I don't mind the match up. We know what they run every play on the goal line anyway.

every bowl game that isn't a playoff game is basically a participation trophy if you want to look at it in a glass half-full perspective
I look at bowl games as being 'outside of the sport'. Except for CCG's, the season is over. Bowls aren't anything except exhibition games that have been created to make money for a handful of people. Outside of a handful of bowls, the bowls don't move you further into the playoffs and therefore don't mean anything.

You and I can create an organization, obtain funding for it, get a sponsorship from Proctor and Gamble and call it the Pepto Bismol bowl. We can invite teams and hand out pepto bismol to all of the players. We can crown the winner of the game the Pepto Bismol Champ.

whoop de do
Competitors like to play and compete. Pretty simple. If you like football, you like football. Saying only games with playoff implications "don't mean anything" equates to most games not meaning anything. That's just silly. If you don't like football, then so be it.
To argue that I don't like football because I don't care for exhibition games is silly straw man argument.

FBS lacks a real playoff system. That's the main reason why bowl exhibitions were created in the first place. After the regular season was over, there was no playoff, no way to determine a champ etc. People who wanted to make money saw the lack of a postseason and created exhibition games - called bowl games.

I grew up watching the Houston Oilers. They finished 8-8 in 1996 and missed the playoffs. Should they have played in a bowl game after the season, because competitors like to play and compete? If they did play in said bowl game, what value would be placed on that game? Would it count for something? These are rhetorical questions - the answer is no. The games wouldn't improve their in-season record and they would still miss the playoffs.
You think this word "exhibition" adds some rhetorical weight? Ok...
No, I don't.

We can use the word 'bowl' or the word 'exhibition' or something else. Doesn't matter to me.

All I know is that with +40 bowl games, things are very watered down.

Why do you think bowl games kept popping up until we got to the point that everyone who finished .500 or better could go play in one?
I've already answered that.

The Texas Bowl is ok but I hope we play Aggies, Arky, or someone similar. Rutgers would be a disappointment. Other options I would like to see: Illinois, Bama, SC, Mizzou, or Clemson. All are ranked 9-3 teams.
