We have got to get this game permanently scheduled for rivalry week. They are definitely are biggest rival.

I agree 100%. This should be our last game of every season. I really wish the Big 12 would do rivalry week like the other conferences do.guadalupeoso said:
They are our rivals and I do not know why some Baylor fans insist that they not be. Rivalries are built on mutual hate between similar programs. TCU is literally our foil. UT was never our rival. A&M is a rival, but we don't get to play them anymore. TCU is our longest played rivalry and if we would lean into it, it would be a boon for both teams to have such a rivalry on the schedule.

Would this help us take the game as seriously as they do and stop generally getting our ass kicked?
It depends on who you ask. To me its not a natural rivalry. They view us way more as a rival than we view them. When I was at Baylor (mid 80s to 90) A&M was our rival (to us). Also not a natural rivalry as they view UT as their rival, while UT views OU as their rival.Jorkel said:

I just think we need to learn to meet it.Daveisabovereproach said:Robert Wilson said:

I really don't think Dykes has a personal vendetta against us. Patterson hated Briles, and then TCU ironically hired a couple of Briles' buddies/family members that hate us. Once that crew is gone, I think the vitriol from their side is going to die down a bit.
they 100% are our rival. Why would you think otherwiseOsoCoreyell said:

he didn't realize it after our players got in a fight during the game in 2017?Big12Bear said:
Still remember Rhule's comments after beating TCU in 2019 ---his third year with the program ---- that he had no idea this was a rivalry and he wished someone had told him. TCU fans and students were cussing the heck out of him and throwing things prompting him to comment.
Though the name "BU-TT Bowl" had/has a certain panache.CaliBear00 said:
Bluebonnet is stupid, it makes our supposed rivalry with TCU seem manufactured. It's a a lame as the Texas Shootout with Texas Tech, another astroturfed rivalry that literally no one cared about.

Texas's disdain for Baylor began to take on a life of its own around that time. Perhaps to levels similar to when they battled Aggie every year. And the feeling was mutual.
Had the SEC drama not kicked in recently, I feel Baylor/UT would have become similar to the Duke/UNC rivalry (Big State School versus the Private School right down the road).
Bragging rights against TCU are one thing, but I think a majority on here enjoyed having "Scoreboard" on the Horns much more.

TCU was not a huge rival of ours in the SWC.
Their vitriol comes from the fact that we made the B12 while they got left behind.

28 wins. 17-32 in the last 50 years. Very very lopsided pre-Teaff. When Briles won 4 of 5 with a couple of titles, things got really nasty, as you said.Redbrickbear said:LTBear19 said:

I think you are right about ut
The TCU thing was always a low key private school vs private school kind of rivalry but with Texas there was a chance for a big rivalry
Getting good at basketball under Drew and football under Briles showed us that if you can sustain some success against the whorns then things get nasty
The one thing that held us back from a big rivalry with ut in football for 100 years is that we just did not win enough
21-81 over 120 years is just not gonna do it

That is the truth. It's all about being competitive. I work with lots of UT guys. Man, they hated our guts for a while there when we were spanking them in FB and BB. Sustain that for a while, and you've got a legit nasty rivalry.Redbrickbear said:

I actually don't think record really matters. UT has owned A&M historically in their rivalry, and it's still considered one of the biggest in football, because they've played for a long time and are the two biggest schools in the state in the same conference, etc.

Yea,
But a lopsided win total allowed ut to pretend like they did not care about us
If Baylor had been beating them a lot they could not have done the nose in the air thing
And we saw that with Drew and Briles....Baylor wins and all the sudden ut no longer can pretend we don't exist
