Just because we're their rival doesn't mean they're our rival.

To everybody their own opinion. I just as well not play them every year like we will be doing with Tech.

They are our rivals and I do not know why some Baylor fans insist that they not be. Rivalries are built on mutual hate between similar programs. TCU is literally our foil. UT was never our rival. A&M is a rival, but we don't get to play them anymore. TCU is our longest played rivalry and if we would lean into it, it would be a boon for both teams to have such a rivalry on the schedule.

I agree 100%. This should be our last game of every season. I really wish the Big 12 would do rivalry week like the other conferences do.

Would this help us take the game as seriously as they do and stop generally getting our ass kicked?

I feel like they are our main rivals by default. Growing up in Houston, I literally never heard about TCU. Couldn't have told you that they were located in Fort Worth. Couldn't have told you hardly anything about them. In my mind, A&M and UT were much bigger rivals. They really didn't seem to come to my attention until 2010 when I was a freshman and they treated our team so poorly at their stadium and acted like it was their Super Bowl.

I really don't think Dykes has a personal vendetta against us. Patterson hated Briles, and then TCU ironically hired a couple of Briles' buddies/family members that hate us. Once that crew is gone, I think the vitriol from their side is going to die down a bit.

It depends on who you ask. To me its not a natural rivalry. They view us way more as a rival than we view them. When I was at Baylor (mid 80s to 90) A&M was our rival (to us). Also not a natural rivalry as they view UT as their rival, while UT views OU as their rival.

I just think we need to learn to meet it.

To me aggy was always our main rival and the game I wanted to win the most. I guess since there is no more Battle of the Brazos then the frogs are our rival now.

Bluebonnet is stupid, it makes our supposed rivalry with TCU seem manufactured. It's as lame as the Texas Shootout with Texas Tech, another astroturfed rivalry that literally no one cared about.

Agree the Baylor / TCU game should be deemed a rivalry game. There is a lot of modern-day animosity between the two programs not to mention that it would be great publicity for both schools on the largely hyped rivalry weekend. Would also be good pub for the Big 12. Beyond that, of the remaining Big 12 schools, both schools were the oldest members of the SWC and have played each other 120 times dating back to the 1800's. Both are small private schools with TCU at one time being located in Waco. The history is real and amazing. It isn't contrived. This should happen.

TCU was not a huge rival of ours in the SWC.

Their vitriol comes from the fact that we made the B12 while they got left behind.

Then, after decades in the wilderness (41 years between bowl wins from 1957-1998, zero outright SWC Titles in that span) they caught an infusion with LT and company in '98 and, to their credit, have maintained mostly winning seasons since. Plenty of memorable games with them since 2011.

The idea that they aren't our rival is exactly why they have owned our ass. They circle us every year. They define their szn by winning or losing that game. We need to not only match the hate but exceed it!

There's a reason the big 12 made it a protected game and ee will play ever year

Still remember Rhule's comments after beating TCU in 2019 ---his third year with the program ---- that he had no idea this was a rivalry and he wished someone had told him. TCU fans and students were cussing the heck out of him and throwing things prompting him to comment.

If we're being honest, Baylor/TCU really didn't become a heated rivalry until about 15 years ago.

Until then, beating TCU didn't really matter much.

The teams that always received the most hate and animosity were the Aggies and the Horns.

And in my opinion, after A&M left, the rivalry with Texas began to really get serious - on both sides. Especially in football and basketball.

While they won't admit it, Texas's disdain for Baylor began to take on a life of its own around that time. Perhaps to levels similar to when they battled Aggie every year. And the feeling was mutual.

Had the SEC drama not kicked in recently, I feel Baylor/UT would have become similar to the Duke/UNC rivalry (Big State School versus the Private School right down the road).

Bragging rights against TCU are one thing, but I think a majority on here enjoyed having "Scoreboard" on the Horns much more.

In fact, the 2014 beatdown we gave the Horns in DKR might have been one of the most enjoyable victories during that Back-to-Back championship run.

They are definitely our biggest rival. Yes, everyone hates ATM but so does the rest of the state. Tech? Who cares. That place is a craphole. UT? Loved beating them but we were never really on their radar.

I think you are right about ut

The TCU thing was always a low key private school vs private school kind of rivalry but with Texas there was a chance for a big rivalry

Getting good at basketball under Drew and football under Briles showed us that if you can sustain some success against the whorns then things get nasty

The one thing that held us back from a big rivalry with ut in football for 100 years is that we just did not win enough

21-81 over 120 years is just not gonna do it

Sure

But a rivalry has to start somewhere

That really kicked off the hate and it's been a rivalry since the 2000s with us and them

28 wins. 17-32 in the last 50 years. Very very lopsided pre-Teaff. When Briles won 4 of 5 with a couple of titles, things got really nasty, as you said.

I actually don't think record really matters. UT has owned A&M historically in their rivalry, and it's still considered one of the biggest in football, because they've played for a long time and are the two biggest schools in the state in the same conference, etc.

UT was never going to be a two sided rivalry because UT already had three rivals historically - OU, A&M and AR. You can't be rivals with everyone you play.

TCU was definitely a rivalry game when I was at BU in late 80s. It had just been pretty one sided for a while

That is the truth. It's all about being competitive. I work with lots of UT guys. Man, they hated our guts for a while there when we were spanking them in FB and BB. Sustain that for a while, and you've got a legit nasty rivalry.

Yea,

But a lopsided win total allowed ut to pretend like they did not care about us

If Baylor had been beating them a lot they could not have done the nose in the air thing

And we saw that with Drew and Briles....Baylor wins and all the sudden ut no longer can pretend we don't exist

And that's fine. That's just their own arrogance. They do the same thing with A&M, but they still pop bottles when they beat them, so the proof is in the pudding regarding the notion of not caring about the game or whatever
