Texas A&M has been trying that strategy for years, and their budget is significantly bigger

Much easier to succeed in the Big 12 vs the SEC.

This could come back to being embarrassing if they do not win the XII. I'm not sure why Tech in the past 2-3 years has taken to bragging so much in the off season and raising expectations among their own folks to potentially dangerous levels for the staff and athletic administration.

It sucks that we will not be playing them yearly now

Texas A&M had basically their best season when they first went to the SEC (11-2, Cotton Bowl win)

Texas first year in the SEC and they got to the Championship game.

Wait...were criticizing a school for trying to compete?

When just 2 years ago coming off a 6-7 and 3-9 seasons we had a coach who self admitted he didn't embrace NIL?

What am I not getting here?

It should at least be a big boost to their pre-season power ranking.

We all know how relevant those are.

They've been trying to purchase success via recruiting since the 90s, and probably before that

Reminds me of the Pony Excess documentary

Norm Hitzges speaking about the Old Southwest Conference....."There were schools giving out hundreds of thousands of dollars and winning only 3 games. That's the definition of a loser. If you have to say anything about SMU, hey, at least they got players that could play!"

So Ohio State spent $20 million to win a natty, Tech is spending $10 million in hopes of competing for a Big12? They will be lucky to end up with 10 wins

Oregon spent twice what Ohio State did to not win the national title. Money can get a program pretty far but not necessarily everthing it is trying to buy. I'm curious how much ASU spent in NIL for last season to win the XII and if it was more than everyone else. I do not know the stat but I would guess some other XII teams spent more.

Where are you getting that Oregon spent 40 million in NIL

Actually you are probably right. I remember one of you guys posting something like that when after they lost in the play off.

I didn't post anything about Nil figures for Oregon. But I am asking where you're getting 40 million. I haven't heard that anywhere. OSU is considered one of the top NIL spenders and Oregon supposedly doubles them?
Not necessarily saying you're wrong. Just curious where you're getting 40 million from.

$10 million will buy nearly 1.5 million pizzas by the way!

I think it was from here somewhere I though. I am saying it was probably also not accurate now that you mentioned it above..

Imagine if they spent $10 million on improving academics or planting trees on their campus or something else lasting and constructive.

If they win the B12, what is the over/under on the number of people who are going to post that Joey is a great coach and we shouldn't have let him leave?

Yes, replacing their coloring books, big chief tablets and crayons with actual books would have been a good step for them. They could have even bought a book to put in their library.

Excluding Oklahoma, which is in a historic low period, this hasn't proven true for any of the teams that made the move between conferences.

That's true - especially given 40-60% of the Big 12 could win the league in any given year while that's flat out not true in the SEC (or B1G for that matter).

In Tech's case specifically, every offseason of Joey McGuire includes a massive marketing push in regard to how good the upcoming season will be, and, somehow, those expectations have essentially been missed every single year that he has been coach. If Tech -meets- the expectations put out by Tech in 2025, it will more or less be the first time that they have done so with McGuire at the helm.

Zero evidence of that
SEC had 35 players in the Super Bowl
Big 10 had 21
Big 12 had 4.......

Do you think TT has a better chance of winning the Big 12 or the SEC?
