Well, we can rescue this thread (for the time being) by simply changing the title from "Official HC short list" to "Official short HC list".

Here are some candidates:

Dan Mullins is doing a very fine job at UNLV.

Alex Golesh at USF should be the first call. I like Dan Mullens, GJ Kinne, Jimmy Rogers, and the guy from Tulane as well

We need an offensive mind, and you absolutely have to have a charismatic individual that can make connections with the big money folks and beg, borrow, or steal money to buy a team. I'm willing to say that Joey is a better coach than Dave, but he was mid at best until he got blank checks from his oil barons.


I also think we need somebody who's more ambitious than Dave. Dave seems like he's content resting on his laurels and winning just enough every year to keep his job. I want a coach that we're constantly worried about leaving to a bigger program. Most every coach that wins at Baylor is going to flirt with bigger schools, it's just the nature of the beast

Joey's X Factor is his extreme charisma and ability to make connections and get buy in from the big money folks at Texas Tech.

I see your point, but I still blame them. When someone is that good of a recruiter, exceptions should have and could have been made.

We will competing with Florida, UCLA, VaTech and likely Oklahoma State and about 3 to 5 more schools that are at least as desirable as Baylor. We aren't going to get the pick of the litter. Right now Alex Golesh or Dan Mullen would be an absolute dream hire, but we won't get either of themSame goes for Sumrall at Tulane.

The obsession with Kiney and Traylor is somewhat concerning to me as a fan because I am not sure either of those two guys have a "super power"

Whoever we get next better be able to identify or develop talent as their super power. Briles could spot talent for his scheme better than anyone. Rhule could turn a 2 star kid into an all pro linebacker in the NFL. Those super powers allowed a school like Baylor to overachieve and elevate our play on the field against more talented clubs.

So that leaves a very small group of coaches who fit the bill.

I wish we had hired Cignetti, granted Indiana doesn't play a tough schedule, but he wins and gets his players to play fast and disciplined.

To be 100% clear, at this moment in time Aranda is a far more accomplished coach than McGuire is. Full stop. Further, if McGuire wins the conference and a NY6/CFP game this season in order to match Aranda's highs, it will be more of a reflection of Texas Tech booster money than anything else.
