WACO, Texas – Baylor University is finalizing the hire of Doug McNamee as its new Director of Athletics, SicEm365 has learned.

McNamee graduated from Baylor in 2003 and spent over five years in the athletic department from 2012 to 2017. McNamee joined Baylor Athletics in 2012 as an Assistant AD for premium tickets with the Bear Foundation.

He quickly advanced to Senior Associate AD and, in 2015, assumed leadership of the Bear Foundation, where he played a key role in developing the strategy of the department’s annual giving program.

In 2017, McNamee was promoted to Senior Associate AD for External Relations, leading Baylor’s external relations team and directing development for communications, fan engagement, new media, the spirit program and ticket services. McNamee served on the search committee that helped hire head football coach Matt Rhule ahead of the 2017 season.

McNamee left Baylor Athletics to become the President of Magnolia in 2018 before taking over as President of Field & Stream, an outdoor-lifestyle brand, in 2022. He also worked closely with musicians Eric Church and Morgan Wallen on various marketing endeavors.

In the modern era of college athletics, McNamee’s business background can help Baylor oversee fundraising, branding, donor engagement and more to compete at the top of the Big 12.

McNamee has a close relationship with head basketball coach Scott Drew. He was a manager on the basketball team during his undergraduate years.

It's becoming increasingly clear that Baylor wants nothing to do with the outside world. They just want to operate like Alabama. And by that I mean they just want to bang their cousins.

Maybe. Maybe not. I want him to be the best AD in the country. I am rooting for him, but forgive me if I've seen enough Baylor BS to think anyone they hire is a "grand slam"

The one grand slam ever was publicly executed over a load of BS. Forgive me if I am skeptical.

Sounds like an internal hiring that has some familiarity with Baylor sports, plus he's a Baylor grad.
Color me underwhelmed but I'll take a wait and see stance.
if he fires Aranda before Xmas I'll be happy.

I have to think so. That's the one thing that has me excited. He was there for the peak booster years. Plus his job was to raise money. He gets it. I am skeptical but if we are going to effectively make an internal hire, we could have done MUCH worse.

The boosters were there because of Briles and his success not because this guy worked in the department back then. The rationalizations to support this move are just off the wall.

I hope you are correct, ,but his resume is pretty thin on athletic experience IMHO.

I dunno. It looks like he was with Baylor's athletic department under Ian McCaw. I think Ian was pretty good, so maybe this guy could turn out to be pretty good too.

However, he is not established as an AD. I think that is big, big risk. In my opinion, now is not the time to take big risks. By keeping Aranda and hiring this guy, that is two big, big risks. I am crossing my fingers, but I have a really uneasy feeling about the current situation.

Well, I think there's a difference between "discussion" and "JOEY AWESOEM DAVE SUCKY WE SET BACK YEARS CUZ DIDNT HRE MY GUY I THINK I WANTED LIBRAL LINDERRFA I HAYE U

At this point, if anyone loves Joey, I recommend being a tech fan. Their future in football is brighter than ours because of their money. If you don't like Doug as AD, I'd genuinely like to hear the reasons why

Dickey was actually below Doug when they were at Baylor together. Doug went on to make very wealthy and very successful individuals even more money. Including negotiating the Magnolia TV contract, giving him great insight into media relations and the current digital rights landscape. Dickey was a good guy at Baylor. Super friendly. Parlayed his success into the Boise job. People like him. ADVANTAGE DOUG

Mosley…I am sorry, but you are gonna have to explain why I should be excited about him. Baylor never considered him. He ran the Texas HOF and was an AD at UNT. Let's be honest…he made a good hire with Morris…so no experience with major media execs, no outside the box fund raising experience, I mean I could keep going. ADVANTAGE DOUG

If you want a tried and true AD, Baker is a great hire. I think Baylor leadership saw in the current climate an outside the box thinker with direct ties and connections to media with the potential seismic changes coming in realignment could be worth his weight in gold. Once again, I think Doug wins out again.
