This is how I see it. With or without Lagway the roster and coaching blows. I get it, we're all supposed to be optimistic as fans. But it doesn't take Einstein to see that this team simply isn't going to be worth a damm. That would be much easier to swallow under a 1st year HC. Not a guy entering his 7th season

The offensive line as it stands looks like it's going to be one of the worst, if not the worst in the conference. And that's genuinely not me being negative, it's just a fair assessment. We've mostly taken guys that were alright G5 players and are expecting them to look like a decent unit against better competition with one off-season of prep. I just don't see it. Bryson Washington and Connor Hawkins were bigger losses than some want to admit as well. Just think how many games come down to making/missing a field goal.

I really feel bad for Klanderman. Seems like a good coach, but has 1 year so that Aranda can keep his job.

That's a really ****ty situation for him.

Losing a bidding war for Lagway to one of the big programs in the SEC/B1G would not make me blink...but losing him to an ACC school that isn't Clemson/FSU/Miami would be weak.

Has Drelon Miller signed or only committed?

Wonder if losing Lagway could be a two for one loss

Baylor would be smart to move on from Lagway imo. This is getting g embarrassing for BU. The kid clearly isn't committed to BU despite what the insiders are saying. He's obviously shopping himself around. This is just another example of the staff waiting to react instead of being proactive

Lagway really overestimated his value in the portal IMHO. He's been dragging his feet while his agent calls around and gauges whether any other program can match Dave's offer, but nobody else wants him that bad for a reason. A decent prospect, but he's not THAT good

Definitely a QB that needs an all American line in front of him

Since the portal has CLOSED, my understanding is if Lagway signs with a different school after the closing date he could face some eligibility issues… could possibly have to sit out a year, depending on NCAA rules. It would be in his best interest to finalize his decision in the allotted transfer window to avoid complications.

Of course, if it was Baylor he's coming to the NCAA would probably give BU the Death Penalty… a Blue Blood (Duke BB) NCAA would just smirk probably.

He won't encounter eligibility issues if he signs with a different school after the portal has closed as long as he hasn't already signed with Baylor. Entering the portal allows for players to commit or decommit until they sign.

If he actually does end up coming here, I hope he works on his scrambling skills a lot during the off season because he's going to be running for his life quite a bit.

This.

I will be optimistic when optimism is warranted. Look at the players we are getting in the portal. These are not players who are game changers. With or without Lagway we will not be good. Additionally, the way Lagway has dealt with this situation is abysmal. Most transfers sign early in the process. Not him. In sum, I do not believe he is a good fit as the money should go to building the trenches. Second, his attitude in all this moves me even further from wanting him. Lastly, this situation validates why Aranda should have been canned long ago. A good coach would not be strung out like this.

And it's sad CDA has put up with this nonsense. Lagway will be Lagway, but a coach with a bit more moxy wouldn't put up with it.

We don't know the situation regarding his UF contract such as when it expires and if it has not quite expired what is the buyout until it does? We may reasonably not want to pay that. Likewise we could be insisting on on a two year deal and big buyout and he wants just one. In other words it could be us being tough in the negotiations. No one here really knows. If so nothing is wrong with that. Assuming the kid is in control may not be accurate or fair to the kid or any other party.

I have complete, absolute and utter confidence in Baylor getting this done successfully. When have they ever failed? One of the finest law schools in the land. Above reproach Admin, leaders and an esteemed AD. This is in the bag, Sic'em!

Agree that we are all so outside of the situation we really don't know what's truly going on.

I don't want to trash DJ. Of course we'd all love him to have signed the day he committed...but I can't fault him for weighing his options if that's what's going on. There are no guarantees he will end up in the NFL...so it's smart to try and maximize his earning potential now while he can.

They don't call him Nice Guy Dave for no reason.

I find it odd why he keeps so much salary when his program is in the gutter. Give some to the poor or his staff or players or back to the school.

Hope he was not promised consideration for the HC job if it becomes open. Nothing against him at all… but I don't want to go with another promoted coordinator.

What has Aranda got to do with my comment? The comment was a response to someone wondering why Klanderman took the job.

We and even YOU do not know what Klanderman was told as part of accepting the job. He may have been told he had a high change to be head coach in 2027 or earlier. He may have been told who knows what. You are so obsessed with Aranda, that you cannot even read a comment to determine what it is actually about.

This is part of the reason for the delay. The WR help is decent enough, especially in the big 12.

But they aren't dumb, they know the O line isn't any good. If the O-line was proven high level guys, he would have already signed (after trying to push up BU's $ offer of course).

Like I said a week ago, by the time this guy lands on the team (if it happens), fans are going to have a negative attitude about how this has gone. Hope there is still excitement for the kid.
I'm sure he realizes that, but likely doesn't matter….just a business transaction.
My "fan" brain has a hard time processing it.

Exactly. I'm not really angry at Lagway. I don't think he's a good fit, but I'm not angry. I am beyond frustrated with CDA who is coming across as a doormat and is getting stomped on once again. Have some pride.

Problem is in this new age of NIL, there is even less room for nice than there was before. And there was scant room before.

So true. Any coach with moxy would have moved from Dragging his feet lagway last week, if not sooner. He is overestimating his value in this market. Let's go with someone who want to be at Baylor and play at Baylor.
