I've always wondered if Baylor had some kind of endowment or donation tied to not having alcohol at games. Mack just dismissed the idea out of hand like it would never possibly happen until the end of time, which is not typically how he addressed issues people had some interest in. Made me think there might be some kind of legal or institutional financial impediment like that. I'm sure someone out there knows if it's true.

Of course in 2026 the Baptists don't drink scruple is almost completely, if not completely, dead. Even the Baptists I know over 70 rarely have that view anymore. It's actually a significant Christian phenomena that this opinion vanished in a single generation, almost without comment,

1. I don't think they won't want the liability of drinking on campus or in the stadium.

2. It also allows them to throw a bone to the last remaining conservatives on the Board and the conservatives among the donors.

Also a thing they can point to and say "see we are social conservative...no beer!"

Political cover....

While they move hard Left on historic statues, LGBTQ, hiring leftwing professors, DEI, and lots of other issues.

Baylor will move left on every issue eventually...but not on beer or Greek Houses (fraternity/sorority)

we already drink on campus. We sell it at concerts and have allowed it on campus at tailgates for years. I have basically a full bar at my tailgate. Also the Baylor club is located on campus and sells a full bar. so point #1 does not apply.

The liability thing doesn't make sense to me either. Why is literally every other school able to deal with it, but we can't? I'm sure the money you make from the alcohol sales is more than enough to offset the added insurance costs.

Currently Baylor still tries to market itself as a Christian focused university. The selling of beer at games probably won't happen but then again our lady prez has sold out Baylor values to gays and Muslims so anything is possible. My personal preference would be to keep alcohol sales out of Baylor sports if for no reason but to prevent the drunkenness of stupid vulgar sports fans. But for those who just have to pay $15 for a beer sure go ahead and finish destroying Baylor.

What I was always told and just sort of accepted as truth (no way of confirming it, obviously) was that there's a couple big donors that have threatened to pull their money if Baylor start selling alcohol. No clue if it's true,

Its not true....all the main $15 million dollar donor suites are allowed to have alcohol...and almost all take them up on that offer.

Very few, and none of the biggest donors, care about beer & wine on campus.

Its a urban legend....kind of like how when I was on campus Baylor would never tell us why the sororities could not build houses. So people made up stories about Waco having a rule against 5 or more unrelated girls living together as being "a place of prostitution"

There is no deep reason or hidden donor stipulation against beer....they just don't want to allow it

You may be correct. However, something that I have found to be true in life is that not all laws and regulations in a given time and place apply equally for the mega rich vs the little guy. I agree that it's clearly a dumb optics thing with Baylor trying to sell current and perspective parents on this idea that the school is totally still conservative, but I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that a donor or group of donors is holding this up.

Like I said, the fact that it's such a taboo subject that the administrator won't bring up without being directly asked about makes me believe there's something more to it, but who knows

it's not the reason we dont currently sell it and has never been the reason. The only reason has been we are a Baptist school. However, just like many other things, that is the foundation & current leadership has the ability to make decisions. There is no charter document saying it isnt allowed or something else that prevents it. All it takes is the admin to say we sre gonna sell it at sporting events which isnt hard to facilitate since we already are selling it at concerts and allow it at tailgating.

The only true hurdle is how they hand students aged 21+ as it will go against baylor student code of conduct so gamedays will basically have to be a Carve out. Theres no way they can prevent students of age from buying it

Without a doubt they are leaving money on the table.

Hard to judge how much...considering other schools are much bigger (ut-Austin) or much better boozers (WVU)...

But judging by Syracuse a similar size private college...and their alcohol sales....we could be making close to $1 million a year on beer and wine sales.

[Former Syracuse Athletic Director Daryl Gross stated that stadium alcohol sales brought in slightly less than half of the revenue generated by floor seats (which brought in about $2 million annually). This places the school's historical haul at a significant but sub-million-dollar line item]

$1 million doesnt seem a lot.

Baby Dolls...a house of worship in Dallas...brought in 9.7 million last year.

I believe that it is a perception issue. Alcohol being available in the Baylor Club or suites is somewhat out of public view. But beer being sold in the stands is just totally out there to be seen. That image is a complete reversal of the traditional concept of Baptists and no alcohol. Also, if beer is sold at concerts - aren't those concerts produced by the city of Waco rather than Baylor University?

Maybe not, but in an era of increasing costs (NIL, facilities, salaries for staff, ect.)......I am not sure Baylor can afford not to try every legitimate revenue stream it can.

$1 million dollars is still good money

baykor sells the concert tickets, advertises the concerts all over email, social media, and websites, releases multiple atlrticles about it, our VP runs them essentially, and they are marketed as happening at Baylor. We run the concerts lol.

That old cuty group that made hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal income that never did a thing over a decade other than rip off tax payers and never bring events to baylor no longer exists

More likely Baylor will announce they're selling beer at McLane but not telling anyone it's actually near beer.

The video may answer the question as to why beer will not be sold at Baylor football games. But it appears that the Baylor/Baptist no alcohol tradition has been generally tossed aside. The Baylor media promotion of the Hudson Westbrook and Willie Nelson concerts described very clearly that beer would be available. I could understand and respect a Baptist influenced institution to not allow alcohol. But the stance should be consistent. If beer is going to be sold at concerts in an outdoor venue and also an indoor arena then there is not much of an excuse for excluding football. The lengthy duration of a football day may be the only factor.

Catering to those groups allows them to virtue signal. Banning alcohol also allows them to virtue signal, just to a different group. It isn't working, but they think it is

Drinking is not a sin and my comments never made that claim. God's Word does call drunkenness wrong because it can lead to sin. I personally don't want to sit near a drunk fan screaming obscenities and trying to fight others. It's bad enough that our football team is not winning but do you truly want to explain to your kids what those words mean..

I apologize if I came across as implying that you were saying that. We are in complete agreement on the biblical view of alcohol. The problem is and with respect, this argument is the same one that says that because certain twisted individuals use the Internet to try to meet up with children, the Internet should be banned. Or more to the point, the fact that our country has literally banned the sale of alcohol, and it didn't work. People still drank.

Baylor has staff that are supposed to be enforcing the facility's rules. To answer your question, I would go find a staff member and have them address the potty mouth. If that didn't work, I would probably leave. In my experience, people who have filthy mouths after they've had a few have filthy mouths when they're sober, and I've definitely heard plenty of cussing at Baylor athletic events even without the sale of alcohol.
