No issue with going for 2. Still have a huge issue with not trying the FG earlier at 10-7.

Did you see the first FG attempt? It's hard to have any confidence in a kicker booting the greatest screwballs you've ever seen.

No doubt that was dog ugly but if you're ready to give up on your FG kicker as a coach in the 1st game of the year because he missed his first attempt then you should fire whoever is responsible for the kicking game and consider firing yourself as head coach because it implies the position was completely misassessed and the talent level misevaluated at that position in both Spring practice and a month of pre-season practices. It's difficult for me to believe the kid shanked every FG in practice and yet we put him in the game as our FG kicker. Surely if he was that undependable in practice and we had no confidence in him, we would have gone with someone else.

EDITED TO ADD: Just saw your other post that said he was a disaster in camp. Didn't know that. That explains a lot more, but although I know we lost Hawkins to Ohio St unexpectedly surely there was someone who could have competed with him in preseason practices? I guess not if that's who we rolled out. Yikes.

There's not much you can do about getting your all-conference kicker stolen by a blue-blood program at the very end of the portal cycle. That was just bad luck.

If there's one fact of life in the portal era, it's that depth isn't a luxury anyone can bank on. And that's especially true for a Big 12 program in the P2 era.

A lot of stuff looked better. Some of it looked similar to what we've become used to.

But it's the first game against an opponent that we don't even know whether they are actually good or not. I think they had the same record as Baylor last season, starting over with a new head coach and a lot of turnover.

We still don't know that much, other than the defense looked far more competent, and elements of the offense were encouraging.

Too many questions still left to be answered.

Why do we have questions in Year 8?

In the transfer portal era, literally everyone has questions. Ours are just more urgent.

It is simple. Dave has no mode/plan/blueprint. He is simply hiring and firing to see what clicks

Lord knows I'm no Dave Aranda apologist, but today's team didn't look poorly prepared or coached. We lost, and ultimately that's all that matters. But this was a good game that Auburn won. Not one that we pissed away.

The data says otherwise.

So zero points was accurate at the time of my post
Minus the next two games. 10 points wins how many games?

They didn't score 10 either.

Baylor's not playing an SEC defense in a de-facto road game every week.
Just admit that Baylor looked much better than the haters thought, much better than a 2 win team. Offense looked good, defense looked great (compared to last year). Just admit it, that's all I'm saying.

I'm betting they'll play down to their competition. BU has and always will. Well, there was a brief time they had a killer instinct - score until the clocked ticked 60 minutes.

I'll admit those things. This team showed a lot of promise. And if this game had been played last year, people would be more willing to buy in -- or least take a "wait and see" approach.

I'm willing to do so because what other choice do we really have for the next few months? But a lot of folks just want to see heads roll, which based on Aranda's full body of work is justified.

I think this team has two good coordinators and better talent than it's had in a while. So I hope we win eight or nine games and see what happens. But I can't blame anyone for being ready to move on completely from the Dave Aranda era.

I was surprised by how we look, but im not changing my wins from 4 or 5. We're on pace to go ofer. The next two are cupcakes, so ofer wont happen. Maybe we qin 5 based on what I saw today.

You might be okay with 5-7 but Im not.

I was at the game. Synopsis: this team has the potential to be really good when we kick field goals that are a gimme in high school, and kick extra points to go into overtime…especially when the defense is vastly improved after getting a new defensive coordinator vs a defensive philosopher.

Dave has made plenty of money off of BU. Now we a leader, not a stoic philosopher.

Most notable takeaway from the game…once again our HC stood outside the time-out huddles and clapped vigorously while the players turned their backs to him. Enough!

One more takeaway…the price for 4 wonderful BU / Auburn jumbo collector cups with unlimited refills was only $17 total! My teenagers even noted that BU was charging double that for a single fill.

I don't think there are many -- if any -- staunch Dave Aranda defenders remaining. So you're kind of fighting a manufactured crusade.

The only real argument here is whether to judge Aranda's Baylor future on this season and its merits or to fire him regardless of what happens.

I was in the latter camp all last season, but I like the staff and roster around him enough at this point to set a hard threshold for 2026 at 8-4, which is basically my standard for a successful season at Baylor. Anything less than that and it's absolutely time to move on.

I think they'll do better than 5-7, but I'm no expert just a decades long BU fan. And no, I'm not OK with 5 wins.

Identify six wins. The next two are for sure. Colorado is a coin flip in our favor after today.

You either play in the conference championship or your season was a bust. That's the bottom line for me.

Well said. We look better than everyone expected, except this Board who expects every year to be 93 FSU...

That's kind of a silly bottom line for a program a) with Baylor's history and b) with Baylor's NIL budget.

You will be perpetually miserable with that standard.

Klandy is the secret sauce. I like him as a HC. As HC he'd likely keep Spav around, and on a leash. We hire him as HC or someone else will.

Don't know how old you are, but in the last 50+ years you've only been happy after 5 or 6 seasons. That's an insanely crazy bar you've set.

I like Klanderman in the role he's in. But I wouldn't be opposed to giving him or Spav a shot at the head coaching role if we strike out with our top targets or no obvious targets emerge.

I think this is the best set of coordinators we've had in a long while.

Bit early for fire the Coach after a 1 point loss to an SEC for in Atlanta pn Labor Day? O thought today actually helped his case.

LIke I said above, Aranda's path to keeping his job is simple for me. Go 8-4 or better, you get another year. 7-5 or worse, pack your bags.

In case anyone is interested, La. Tech just kicked a field goal to go up 80-3.

Granted, Northwestern lost to Louisiana College last week, but still . . .
