That's pretty much the list. A lot of the up and coming guys were hired in last years cycle.

navy dude, Newberry, just lost to UAB and Florida Atlantic.
I came for the rumors, stayed for the overreactions.

OSU is directionally sound . That could have been BU but our AD at the time was more focused on banging someone that wasn't his wife.

OSU's transformation is quite remarkable...at least so far.

How much more expensive is their lineup than ours?

As is typical at service academies, after a big year last year, they are having a down year this year. Bear in mind Navy beat North Texas last year at North Texas with Eric Morris

Let's be real, we could've hired Morris anyway, our leadership just used the aforementioned affair situation as an excuse for Dave to kick the can down the road and maybe win the big six games this year that he'll need to keep his job.

Anyone but Dave. Seriously. Like, I don't want Jim Grobe or another defensive coordinator, but it's getting to that point that you could pick a name out of a hat, and there's a good chance it would be an upgrade

Two of my top two choices right now would be Traylor and JaMarcus Shephard at Oregon State.

If we could get Atkinson and Legree as a package deal with Shephard, it would be a similar situation to what Oklahoma State is enjoying now.

What makes you think we can hire away Fleck or another successful P4 coach and they won't laugh and hang up?

Realistically, we are looking at hiring a fired P4 coach, a G6 coach, an FCS head coach or a coordinator. Things have fallen that far.

Danielson at Boise State
Kalen DeBoer if Bama fires him
Dabo if Clemson fires him (don't like this, he has not adapted to the new reality)
Elko/Sark if A&M or UT fires them (which might be interesting as they already know Texas recruiting)
Jason Eck at New Mexico
Jeff Traylor
GJ Kinne
The Montana State Guy
Promote Klanderman

That is the list. I'm not even sure that Danielson or a rising star like Eck would come vs waiting for an opening at, say, Colorado or Michigan.

No service academy guys because of NIL and the portal. They live in a different ecosystem.

Last year was a much better environment to make a move.

Honestly at this point, the season is flushed. I am not opposed to waiting till the end of the season, firing Aranda with a reduced buyout, promoting Klanderman and committing the money we save on the buyout to buy players.

SC alumni could buy and sell Oregon;s, tOSU and Michigans four times over. Their problem is that their alumni do not care about football anymore.

And SC fans can definitely be fair weather.

True though that there has been this paradigm shift at SC over the last few decades. With a real push for academics, and movement away from the nepo, legacy, country club attitude toward admits.

How much do the kids coming into SC really care about football, or its tradition at this point?

As far as coaching, CPC was a very pleasant surprise. But then came the downward spiral from sanctions.
Back to square one.

But when SC dropped dime for CLR there was some belief that maybe football was being taken seriously again.

But overall, the attitude seems to be real meh as of late. Does that come from the fair weather crowd at SC? Or fans who are not sold on CLR? Combo of both?

We have one loss. But that was over the weak end of our schedule. We still have Indiana, tOSU and a burgeoning university of caucasians lost among asians on our schedule ahead.

USC will always be a tough gig. Monied, but tough. The expectations can create a black hole, real fast, for an incoming coach.

This is why the out of the box hire of CPC was so good. USC football was down. Fans felt pretty hopeless. So this "whatever" hire had a chance to come in and turn things around without much expectation (anymore) from the fans. And it was fire. He loved SC, and the community, from the get go. There was 200% buy in on his part. And everyone felt it.

Not so much from CLR. Feels like a guy who just applied for a job and got it. And since then, no real "rah, rah, SC" fire or spirit going on there. And SC fans, especially, feel that in a coach. But much truth in what those on here have said about the NIL impact on college football. It's officially a business now. So to expect much passion from a player, or a coach, for the school itself, will not be as common as it once was.

Sometimes going for the out of the box hire ends up being best.

Traylor is not that great. He is now almost 60 and everyone who has been a potential suitor has passed him over. I think Will Stein was behind the magic of the years that made a huge impression on you. Will Stein has now surpassed Traylor career wise.

The Oregon State HC is only 7 games into his career as a HC. Seems like there is not much there to really judge yet as a HC. That said both are better than who our AD would likely come up with. I don't trust our AD with no experience who by enhancing fan experience meant make the games feel like church camp, to be doing this. Just the fan experience hype compared to what he meant shows me enough that his judgment is off.

I'm pretty anti-Traylor because I think he's too old guard.

To toss a new name into the hat, JaMarcus Shephard at Oregon State. Offensively minded. Was under big winning teams. Having a breakout first season at a program left in the dust

I can't believe some people are actually mentioning Elko as a desirable candidate who despite all of A&M's unlimited resources, enormous fanbase, great location, etc. has managed to turn them into a solid lower division SEC program. Only thing attractive about him is we could prolly get the aggys to agree to pay his salary if we'd take him off their hands.
IowaBear

Some coaches do better in certain situations. I expect Elko is that type of guy. Just look at Napier. He's got JMU playing at a ridiculous level right now.

Traylor has never had a losing season as a head coach ... ever ... at any level. He is, in fact, a great coach and would excel in a situation like Baylor's, where he would have comparable resources to most of his peers. His teams are sound, consistent and don't lose at home.

That you've spent seven years defending Aranda's bull**** and trash a proven winner like Traylor is odd, particularly given the dynamics at play that you have no knowledge of that have kept him in San Antonio so long.

And Shephard has a really strong resume and immediate success as a head coach at a place that's not particularly easy to win these days. He also has a defined offensive identity that would fit Baylor and Texas talent like a glove and a group of skill players who would excel in the Big 12 if they were to follow him.

I'm open to others. There are a lot of good coaches out there. -- virtually all of which would be better than what we currently have.

I'm at the point where I don't even care who they hire. Just ****ing fire Dave and hire anyone! Show the fans that you at least xmcare a little bit about your main athletic program.
I've said it a million times already. But not firing Dave last November set this this program back 3 year's minimum. It's awful to say. But I'd rather them lose to KU and UCF and this point if I knew it would result in his firing. Baylor won't fire him if he makes a bowl game imo. Hell I'm not even sure they'll fire him if he loses out

Put me down for the anybody but Dave camp as well. Just throwing out names that have already been mentioned in other threads -

Memphis Tigers Charles Huff
Western Michigan Broncos Lance Taylor
Oregon State Beavers JaMarcus Shephard
UTSA Roadrunners Jeff Traylor
New Mexico Jason Eck

I would be happy with any of these, and I think that they are all reasonably attainable
DTBear

Traylor - UTSA
Eck - New Mexico
Dickert - Wake Forest
Kinne - Texas St

You really want an offensive minded head coach, a program builder who knows how to do more with less. I would not hire a coordinator either unless he was a previous college head coach. All of these guys teams play really hard. I like the top two.

I think Traylor is probably too redneck for the highland park crowd. Eck is 350 lbs and sweaty which that same crowd would not like. I think Dickert will be the hot coach this year and too big a name by the time we hire someone. Kinne has weird history with Baylor but is similar to Traylor. They lost to UTSA this season and UT and San Diego St.

Newberry at Navy is a very good head coach but they are a bit down this season. Option offense although somewhat of a spread option.

Lamb at Tulsa looks like a future star but they sucked last year and it's probably too early.

Shepherd at Oregon State has only one year as a head coach. You likely want more than that. No more head coach with training wheels.

Vigen at Montana St looks like the best coach in that conference.

Taylor at Western Michigan is the best coach in that conference and should be considered.

I wish they would Klanderman the rest of the year. He seems like a head coach and has a history of being in successful programs at ND St and KSU.

Danielson is as much a choir boy as McNamee. Not saying that's a bad thing but you may want some diversity and fire.

Neal Brown is doing a great job at UNT in his first year rebuilding that entire roster.

Carthel at SFA is a doing a great job this year. They could beat some FBS schools this season.

You are probably right, and my fear is we'll end up going 6-6, land in some third tier who cares bowl that will be attended by less than 20K and that will be good enough for CDA to return in 27 for another season of this crap, including running his record to 1-7 against TCU.

Vigen was another one I forgot. I like him

Spencer Danielson I think is a good coach, but I didn't include him in my list as I don't think he would come here. I get the impression that he likes being the big fish in a small pond at Boise State.

I think the Wake Forest coach is a pretty good coach but don't know much about him. Like Spencer Danielson, I just don't know if we would be able to pony up enough cash to entice him away from Wake Forest.
