I must have missed something. Why is the former governor a bad choice as interim? Has he been named somewhere in the MSU scandal? Did he do something wrong as governor? Or another reason? Or is he perhaps the wrong political party? (which seems dumb- his adviser is another former gov from the other party)

I'm being serious here. I don't understand why he is a bad choice and the article doesn't seem to say much other than several people felt their input was not heard. IE- they didn't get to make the sole decision.

So it sounds to me like they wanted choice B and the board went with Choice A so they are having a meltdown.

So in December of 16 when lawsuits are filed why where they not afraid of the NDA then?

Did Cannon's manifesto of petition violate a NDA or not?

Side note - thinking NoBSU was spot on your purpose
Because it was a knee-jerk reaction to the WSJ attack simply trying to stop the one-sided narrative; legal posturing that is normally effective when the other side cares about whether they are bleeding money. They never planned to follow through, they just wanted the attacks to stop. Cannon knew the NDA was going to handcuff any such suit. The question you must ask yourself is: Why were regents allowed to personally use information that all regents had signed NDAs not to disclose? From the same pool of information which they, as a board, refused to release for reasons related to privacy concerns.

The answer is simple. Protection of the regents personally, outweighs any and all other consideration.

The answer is simple, it is just one you have a hard time accepting. They did it to end the wild scapegoating rumor that there was no good reason to fire Briles. That is not my speculation that is their own words.

While it was Gray, Harper, and Murff were the ones speaking - This assuredly was done with the blessing of the full BOR. Same with the information in Shillinglaw.

For all practical purposes, they achieved their goal, to end it ..... except for the most devout CABers, many of which are the ones starring your post

No. It was not done with the full blessing of the BOFR. In fact, one regent told me specifically it was a few regents managing this debacle and they had no idea of this action or others until after they were done. Since that was the case, your assumption as to the response for Shillinglaw is an assumption too. Our BOFR is a very fractured group of 30+ people.
Did you happen to ask why this Regent and the vast majority of them just sat on their hands while this was going on and why they did nothing to respond to these "few". I suspect some Regents realizing the body as a whole are fxck ups are trying to revise history and claim they were against "all of this" and perhaps it is even true. Well ....if so they were complicit in silence at the time. Which makes them as culpable as the "few" who were screwing up the school.

Short answer: yes. They have NDAs and can't go publicly off the reservation lest they be held personably liable and that's no secret. There's not enough space for my long answer and that's much more confidential.
I understand your long answer is confidential. However nothing happened to the few who went off the reservation. So why were the vast majority so scared to stand up for the school? That would be their actual duty as a Regent.

You have to admit if he has ties to people involved in the scandal as alleged, it appears to be a bad choice and probably a self serving choice for their Regents, who probably have fantasies of the kind of unaccountability Baylor's has.

However true this may be, and it sure may be, the Governor of a state is almost certain to have ties with top officials all over his state. It would almost be impossible for him not to have them.

Thanks. I looked up a little about the guy. He was governor from 91-01. So when most college snowflakes were not alive or were just being born.

He is Republican which as others have said they automatically hate.

All I could find on education is that he helped pass a bill to give all teachers computers and internet access in 2001. He also seemed to reduce taxes for schools, created a charter system, an online program for graduation, etc.

https://www.mackinac.org/4847

So I guess the "decimate" part is that he seems to be one of the first to start and implement the charter school and vouchers movement.

Other than that the others seem to not have a specific complaint about him.

Fwiw...I also see several people complaining that he made moves that were harmful to the mental health community...again...don't know if that's valid or not.

Going back to whatever his policies were as Governor in the mid/late 90s is stupid. The key are these photos of him yacking it up with folks involved in the scandal recently. BTW those photos werent allegedly taken this past weekend were they. The optics are even worse if he is hanging out with these folks just a few days ago after all this broke. In fact I dont see how he can be the interim, with any credibility, if that is the case. This would be like making Bill Clements the interim Pres of SMU right after the scandal of the 80s broke (at least from an optics stand point).

Hell Magic Johnson has more crediblity in the role based on what he has said.

Agreed.

His stance on taxes, budgets, closing mental health facilities education, etc don't have anything to do with guiding a university. And especially nothing to do with his ability to guide a university after a scandal/ with a major problem like this.

To me it is more like they disagree with what he did in Career 1 that has no impact on Career 2 and are judging him/qualifying him on the two different things when that should not be done at all.

In the real world this is blackmail.

She pretends to be a consultant within the sphere of campus sexual assault.
Then makes public, with a one sided agenda, the contents of a private conversation.

What she really is doing is a shakedown, in effort to line her pockets.

That the SJW crowd can't see through her crap is proof they are blind to justice, they looking for vengeance.

I would think that universities would have learned from Missouri that you can't cave to the students and what they want when the donors, payers, etc don't want that.

Mizzou had a huge drop in applications, admissions and rise in transfers. They have had to close dorms, fire people, and are in financial issues. And haven't recovered yet and wont for years as people still remember that.

Amen

Really thought the security in the court room responded too fast - should have let it go at least one round

While he deserves any beatings he gets and yes the security responded a little too fast that isn't the way our courts operate.

I hope that the father doesn't get any charges against him or the DA, judge, jury, etc all understand where he is coming from and give him a very light sentence. Like community service for one hour or probation or something.
