BREAKING: Bears add grad-transfer QB Jalan McClendon
Baylor has landed a commitment from N.C. State grad-transfer quarterback Jalan McClendon (6-5, 221) who is set to receive his degree from the ACC program in May. McClendon took an official visit to Baylor over the weekend.
The Bears, who had been in search of a grad transfer quarterback since Zach Smith's decision to leave the program was made in December, will add McLendon as their third scholarship quarterback for the 2018 season to compete with sophomore Charlie Brewer and true freshman Gerry Bohanon.
McClendon recently decided to place himself on the grad-transfer market when N.C. State starting quarterback Ryan Finley decided to return for his senior season rather than head to the NFL. McClendon was the backup to current Indianpolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett for the Wolfpack in 2015 while being the back up to Finley in 2016 and 2017.
The large quarterback didn't accumalte eye-popping numbers for the Wolfpack during in his time Raleigh, but did show off plus athleticism in the course of three seasons, rushing 46 times for 223 yards (4.9 yards per carry) and two touchdowns.
McClendon was used often to run the football for the Wolfpack during his sophomore season including key roles in victories over in Notre Dame, Syracuse and North Carolina where he rushed for 129 yards on 21 carries (6.1 yards per carry), including a career high 56 rushing yards against the Fighting Irish. The former 4-star prospect threw for 262 career yards on 55-percent completions with one touchdown and four interceptions.
In one appearance in 2017 as a junior, McClendon completed 2-of-3 passes for 17 yards and rushed for 67 yards on six carries.
