A safety was the difference between Baylor and Texas on Saturday afternoon, but it was Baylor that couldn't extend a lead on multiple occasions in the second half and it cost them their undefeated season.

Baylor was holding onto a 34-32 lead after a punt by Drew Galitz when the Texas Longhorns drove the length of the field to set up a field goal that ultimately won the game.

After scoring 14 points on their first three possessions of the game, the Baylor offense hit a lull until Seth Russell found KD Cannon for a a touchdown with nine seconds remaining in the first half.

The Bears opened the contest against Texas with a six play, 75-yard scoring drive that was capped off with a 50-yard Seth Russell run. The Longhorns went on to answer the score with a 40-yard touchdown pass, and after a Russell interception on a tipped pass on the following drive, Texas gained their first lead of the game on a 37-yard run by running back D’Onta Foreman.

Baylor’s offense kept up pace and tied the game on the following possession, but from there the teams traded nine possessions until the next score. After the Bears recovered a fumble on their own two-yard line, a holding call by offensive lineman Blake Blackmar gave the Longhorns a safety and a score that would be the difference in the half.

Following the safety punt by Drew Galitz, the Longhorns drove 66 yards on six plays to extend the lead to nine. The two teams traded punts following the score until the Bears final possession of the half.

A 13 play, 81-yard drive by the Bears highlighted by 11 carries between Seth Russell, Shock Linwood and Terence Williams led to the touchdown pass to Cannon the cutting the lead two points prior to the half.

The Longhorns took the opening drive of the second half down into the red zone, but Baylor's defense held to a field goal. On Baylor's ensuing possession, the Bears rode Williams all the way to the endzone on a 10 play,  78-yard drive to take a 28-26 lead. Williams totaled seven carries for 68 yards and a touchdown on the drive.

On the next two Texas possessions, Baylor's defense forced two punts that helped the Bears extend the lead slightly.

The Bears drove down inside the red zone on their first, but an intentional grounding penalty stalled the drive and the Bears settled for a Chris Callahan field goal that extended their lead to 31-26. On the next possession, Baylor once again drove inside the red zone, but a JaMycal Hasty fumble gave the ball back to Texas.

But the Baylor defense held strong again, giving the ball back to their offense after forcing another Texas punt. Led by the running game and a brilliant hurdle by Russell on a quarterback run,  Callahan connected on his second field goal of the game to extend Baylor's lead to 34-26.

Aided by a 61-yard pass from Shane Buechele to Lorezno Joe, the Longhorns cut Baylor's lead to 34-32 and attempted a two-point conversion to tie the game. However, a Tyrone Swoopes quarterback run was stopped short on the attempt.

On their next possession, the Baylor offense was forced to punt and gave the Longhorns a chance to gain the lead in the final three minutes of the contest.

Russell attempted a hail mary pass that fell short to Cannon with no time remaining in the game.

How the bears lost to that cesspool of a team two years in a row I have no clue.

We got their best shot.

The difference was those two FG's and that fumble in between. 6 points instead of 21. The D was playing great. I'm not sure why Hasty was in there when we were in the red zone. Hopefully Colt or Brian can find out why Shock played so little, and it looked like Jefferson was hurt.

My only other disappointment was Grobe. Just no emotion all game. Either be helpful or go up in the press box. I wish he would inspire just a little bit.

Exactly. And the play calling stunk in the fourth quarter.

And the officials took back two turnovers made by our defense. As far as I am concerned we DID win this game and it was stolen from us.
