Baylor responds to Star Telegram Report

August 7, 2018
26,471

In response to the Star Telegram report, Baylor University released the following statement regarding a potential self-imposed bowl ban for the 2018 season:

“It is irresponsible to report that Baylor is considering a football bowl ban for the 2018 season when in fact the NCAA investigation into the prior football staff and previous athletics administration remains active and ongoing. Additionally, it is premature to speculate as to what the University’s sanctions will be at this point in time.”

Probably not the first time that Mac has been called irresponsible or has been criticized as premature.

At least the BOR responded defensively, and didn't say "O, ok".

The BoR would not be responding to this.

I respectfully disagree, Sir. I don't believe at this point the Baylor Administration uses the restroom without getting approval from the BOR. Just my opinion.

Trust me on this. The wording of that statement is telling. There is absolutely no other interpretation.

Considering the other information given they have no idea of what penalties could come at this time, if any come.

"If any" is an important distinction omitted from Baylor's statement. Again, the debate is fruitless. Sanctions are coming.

A few of the coaches were sanctioned the final season, so they could be, but right now they didn't know, so it was left open ended.

Well, I suppose one can read and still be poor at writing.

Edit: Sigh. I'm well aware of the novel. It was just a poor attempt at humor on your part.

But not Shirley Jackson, whoever that is.I looked it up. The Lottery (one of the most famous American short stories) was published first in The New Yorker in 1948.

I need to remember:
1. Some people on this board finished their education before 1950.
2. Literary references even on a Baylor Football board are a reach.
3. As that one poster would always post on Baylorfans, Baylor isn't Stanford.

Maybe Mac can get a quote from Briles Last Resort on those sanctions. We wouldn't want anyone to bolt the set before tough questions get asked. The national tv viewing audience has seen that WWE style entertainment. I believe it is appropriate to answer questions before running for cover.

NCAA thing is ongoing. It is not about the previous staff. It is about the previous staff answering questions about what was going on with admin during their time. Several key people have been to Chicago since last April.

Did anyone associated with Baylor or any of the parties not think there wouldn't be violations exposed?
This is college athletics, where the pros look like choir boys compared the ethical university community in our fine land.

Right, as per my earlier point. This should have started two years ago.

Are we all that Mac Engel writes about? At this point it seems to be a conflict of interest him writing about us all the time. Went to school at TCU, works for TCU.

If I were Baylor, I'd start putting some legal pressure on him or the paper.

Why don't we all just hope the truth comes out? No matter who is found guilty or who goes down. I don't think that is too much to ask, especially for a university that claims to have a Christian mission.
