Athlon Sports: Brewer No. 27 QB in the country

The ultimate tailgate package for Baylor’s 2019 season!

Pro Football Focus calls Charlie Brewer the highest graded returning quarterback in the Big 12 for the 2019 season. With a grade of 91.4, Brewer is ahead of Iowa State QB Brock Purdy (89.3), Texas QB Sam Ehlinger (85.7) and Texas Tech QB Alan Bowman (81.2).

Athlon Sports, however, doesn’t see that as the case. Brewer checks in at No. 27 nationally and falls behind both Brock Purdy (18) and Sam Ehlinger (3). He’s three spots ahead of Bowman (30).

Outside of the conference Brewer is ahead of notable quarterbacks Joey Burrow (28, LSU), Jarrett Guarantano (35, Tennessee) and Brian Lewerke (37, Michigan State), but falls behind Zac Thomas (24, Appalachian State), Nate Stanley (22, Iowa), Khalil Tate (17, Arizona), Kellen Mond (13, Texas A&M) and Adrian Martinez (9, Nebraska).

Here is what Athlon Sports had to say about Brewer’s upcoming season:

27. Charlie Brewer, Baylor

Brewer showed plenty of promise as a freshman, as he paced the Bears’ offense with 1,562 yards and 11 passing touchdowns in 2017. As expected, Brewer was better as a sophomore last season and should be primed for a push for All-Big 12 honors in 2019. The Texas native started 12 contests and connected on 61.5 percent of his throws for 3,019 yards and 19 touchdowns. Brewer tossed only nine picks over 390 attempts and ended the year with back-to-back 300-yard efforts versus Texas Tech and Vanderbilt. The Brewer-to-Denzel Mims connection should be a potent one for coach Matt Rhule in 2019.

Athlon should just fire whoever wrote an article claiming Ehrlinger is the #3 QB in the country. I'd stop reading at that point.

Ehrlinger may not be third best in the conference or third best in the state.

How many P5 teams are there?

Our boy is better than number 27, he's top 20 at the least.

He may not be third best on his own roster.

Exactly. The real news is he is the #0.27 QB in the country. Better than first! How is that possible? Because Charlie Brewer.

Speaking of Charlie, when he does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down. Charlie doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants. Charlie counted to infinity - twice.
Once a cobra bit his leg. After five days of excruciating pain, the cobra died.

AMEN, BROTHA!

(Note, cobra struck his leg twice. Between the first and second strike Charlie administered life saving therapy to the cobra that he invented on the spot. Second bite was on the cobra)

I know he'd be a young draftee, which probably influences these things, but you'd think the number 3 QB in college could crack the top 10 NFL draft QBs, no?

Anyone watching the games knows he's better than that ranking.

Being ranked for the NFL is different than being ranked for college performance, so it makes sense.

It's like comparing Bryce Petty to Charlie Brewer. Petty may ultimately end up with better college stats, but, assuming that Brewer continues to improve in the areas that matter, Brewer is better positioned for NFL success.

I would have rated Brewer much higher but then no one asked me. Will say this, BU would have been really pressed to equal last years win/loss record.without him.
