Athlon Sports: Brewer No. 27 QB in the country
The ultimate tailgate package for Baylor’s 2019 season!
Pro Football Focus calls Charlie Brewer the highest graded returning quarterback in the Big 12 for the 2019 season. With a grade of 91.4, Brewer is ahead of Iowa State QB Brock Purdy (89.3), Texas QB Sam Ehlinger (85.7) and Texas Tech QB Alan Bowman (81.2).
Athlon Sports, however, doesn’t see that as the case. Brewer checks in at No. 27 nationally and falls behind both Brock Purdy (18) and Sam Ehlinger (3). He’s three spots ahead of Bowman (30).
Outside of the conference Brewer is ahead of notable quarterbacks Joey Burrow (28, LSU), Jarrett Guarantano (35, Tennessee) and Brian Lewerke (37, Michigan State), but falls behind Zac Thomas (24, Appalachian State), Nate Stanley (22, Iowa), Khalil Tate (17, Arizona), Kellen Mond (13, Texas A&M) and Adrian Martinez (9, Nebraska).
Here is what Athlon Sports had to say about Brewer’s upcoming season:
27. Charlie Brewer, Baylor
Brewer showed plenty of promise as a freshman, as he paced the Bears’ offense with 1,562 yards and 11 passing touchdowns in 2017. As expected, Brewer was better as a sophomore last season and should be primed for a push for All-Big 12 honors in 2019. The Texas native started 12 contests and connected on 61.5 percent of his throws for 3,019 yards and 19 touchdowns. Brewer tossed only nine picks over 390 attempts and ended the year with back-to-back 300-yard efforts versus Texas Tech and Vanderbilt. The Brewer-to-Denzel Mims connection should be a potent one for coach Matt Rhule in 2019.
