The Big 12 RedZone: Week Six featured a full slate of conference games

Texas Tech rebounded against Oklahoma State 45-35
What went wrong?
Tech - The Red Raiders would have won by more if they didn’t go 2-for-13 on 3rd down and 0-for-2 on 4th down conversions.
OSU - Five turnovers by quarterback Spencer Sanders.
What went right?
Tech - The offense was terrific in all aspects but especially in the pass game. The Red Raiders threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns. The offensive line only gave up one sack on 44 attempts.
OSU - The superstars continue to shine for the Pokes. Wide receiver Tylan Wallace had 11 catches for 85 yards and a touchdown while running back Chubba Hubbard ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries.
Key Stats
*Oklahoma State scored 28 of its 35 points in the second half.
*Texas Tech had only forced four turnovers coming into this game, they forced five in this one.
*Tech QB Jett Duffey was 26-of-44 for 424 yards and four touchdowns to go along with 16 yards and another touchdown on the ground.
Oklahoma flew by Kansas 45-20
What went wrong?
OU - A slow start for the first time in a while, the Sooners were tied after the first quarter. After that it was over though.
KU - The defense was dreadful giving up a ton of explosive plays and allowing the Sooners to go 6-for-9 on 3rd down.
What went right?
OU - The offense churned out 545 yards of total offense on just 66 plays.
KU - QB Carter Stanley was 18-of-28 for 230 yards and three touchdowns.
Key Stats
*Both teams had 8 or more penalties for at least 82 yards.
*OU QB Jalen Hurts had 284 yards of total offense and four touchdowns.
*KU RB Pooka Williams had 23 carries for 137 yards and wide receiver Stephon Robinson Jr. had a career day with five catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
Iowa State destroyed TCU 49-24
What went wrong?
TCU - The run game finally got stopped as the Horned Frogs only had 108 rushing yards on 33 carries. They finally played a good defense.
ISU - The Cyclones had it rolling Saturday but 4-for-9 on 3rd down and 0-for-2 on 4th down were not amazing like the rest of the performance was in this one.
What went right?
TCU - True freshman Max Duggan was ok in this game as he finished 17-of-25 for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Both touchdowns went to TCU’s star receiver Jalen Reagor.
ISU - QB Brock Purdy got the offense rolling as he finished 19-of-24 for 247 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 102 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Key Stats
*More of a funny stat. TCU QB Alex Delton finished with four completions for two yards, really impressive.
*ISU star receiver Deshaunte Jones finished with 10 catches for 110 yards and the Cyclones running back Johnnie Lang ended up with 16 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown.
*TCU running backs Darius Anderson and Sewo Olonilua combined for just 62 yards on 20 carries.
Texas outshot West Virginia 42-31
What went wrong?
UT - The defense gave up 463 total yards of offense to the Mountaineers which included 367 passing yards.
West Virginia - QB Austin Kendall had four interceptions and led the Mountaineers to on 4-for-14 on 3rd down conversions. The offenses run game also didn’t help with only 96 yards on the ground
What went right?
UT - The balance of the offense was impressive as the Longhorns had 211 passing yards and 216 rushing yards.
West Virginia - The passing game had four turnovers but it also had 367 yards and three touchdowns, they also won the penalty battle 3 to 10.
Key Stats
*The Longhorns had 36 minutes of time of possession.
*Top 2019 QB prospect turned running back Rochon Johnson had 21 carries for 121 yards.
*WVU wide receiver TJ Simmons had seven catches for 135 yards and a touchdown. It has been a tough start to the year for the guy who was supposed to be the leader of the receiving group but he got on track.
Baylor dominated Kansas State 31-12
What went wrong?
BU - A slow offensive start in the scoreless first quarter and a 2-for-9 finish on 3rd down conversions hampered the offense quite a bit and kept the game closer than it was.
KSU - The offense just could not get anything going until it was too late. The run game was stuck in the mud as the Wildcats had 40 carries for 123 yards.
What went right?
BU - The defense continues to stand tall for this Baylor team. They held Kansas State to 6.4 yards per pass and 3.1 yards per rush while also forcing two turnovers. Not to mention six sacks and 15 tackles for loss.
KSU - The time of possession was right where Kansas State wanted it at as they had nearly 37 minutes time of possession.
Key Stats
*Baylor defensive end James Lynch had five tackles, three sacks, four tackles for loss. He also forced a fumble, it was a great performance by the defensive line as a whole but Lynch really brought it on Saturday.
*The Wildcats were 6-for-17 on 3rd down and 1-for-2 on 4th down.
*Baylor finally got back on track in the run game as the Bears finished with 158 yards on 31 carries which is 5.1 yards per rush.
Power Rankings
1. Oklahoma - The offense continues to roll but this week will shape the top of the Big 12 as the Sooners head to Dallas to take on Texas.
2. Texas - The Longhorns went on the road and took out the Mountaineers in a pretty hard-fought game. They have a chance to take the top spot if they beat Oklahoma this weekend.
3. Baylor - The Bears went to Manhattan and got a big road win. The defense continues to show they are one of the best in the league while the offense has done more than enough up to this point. The Bears face the Red Raider sat home this weekend.
4. Iowa State - The Cyclones rolled past the Horned Frogs which was definitely not surprising to me. They needed the win and took care of business. This team is going to be very dangerous the rest of this season. They hit the road to face West Virginia in what could be classified as a trap game.
5. Oklahoma State - This is what the Cowboys do on the road in games they are supposed to win. They rely too heavily on three players and a fairly soft defense. They get a bye before facing Baylor at home next week.
6. TCU - The Horned Frogs lost to a really good team on the road which is not surprising but they have got to get better at quarterback and take a bigger step up on defense. This team has some growing up to do.
7. Kansas State - The Wildcats are who I thought they were coming into the season. They have got to be able to run the ball successfully if they want an opportunity to score points, that won’t happen in every Big 12 game. They get a much-needed bye.
8. Texas Tech - The Red Raiders move up the list a spot but I need to see more if I am going to move them up more. Tech has been good at home to start the year but have been outscored 83-30 on the road. Jett Duffey will have a chance to show what he is capable this weekend in Waco against Baylor.
9. West Virginia - The Mountaineers are starting to look like a team that will be competitive in a lot of conference games especially the ones in Morgantown, I could see them upsetting someone. They lost to the Longhorns this week but kept the game close for a large part of it.
10. Kansas - The Jayhawks got smashed by Oklahoma which really isn’t surprising. Kansas gets a bye week before heading to Austin and losing again.
