We've all read all of that. You and your buddy George Truett can keep posting it if you think it is a substitute for actual facts.

And, in spite of all the quotes Thee says he has, the incestuous BOR paid Art $15M. Why give that $ to a man if he could be fired for cause and not be paid anything? Because, there was no cause.

Sometimes it is good for you to hear it again.

I know some folks are a little dense or they just don't want to hear it. It makes their ears hurt.

The Art/Baylor fiasco was a breakdown on all fronts. I still contend that had Ian McCaw done his job instead of being scared & intimidated, none of this would have happened.

He should not have even been paid a Gut Pack from Vitek's!!!!!

He was paid to shut up. Baylor the institution is much more valuable and needed than Art was.

Again, all Art had to do was check his ego at the door and ask questions of folks that knew the Baylor Way. But no, Art's ego would not allow it. So, he ended up crying and quoting scripture.

His inactions burned his tail.

Baylor regents said that when Mr. Briles was asked what he would have done differently, he broke down and wept. Many board members began to cry as well.

"He couldn't speak he was so upset, and all of us were," Mr. Gray said. "Art said, 'I delegated down, and I know I shouldn't have. And I had a system where I was the last to know, and I should have been the first to know.'"
Mr. Cannon said Mr. Briles quoted Scripture and expressed his regrets over the painful situation Baylor was in, but didn't admit to wrongdoing.
Not quoted correctly. Yes, Briles broke down when questioned but not in front of the Board. You would too if everything you had built since arriving was being taken away from you.

Those Board members and their tears to God were reacting to the Pepper Hamilton "verbal report" that showed only 18 or so athletes were charged and hundreds of students the Board wanted to cover up.

Has Baylor run out of insurance money? If so maybe the truth will eventually come.

Now that you phrase it that way, he's perfectly qualified to be a Regent. And if he gives more than $567.35, he will have outdonated about half the current Board.

All in favor of making Briles a Regent, say "Aye."

Whoa.

Not sure how you drew(haha) that conclusion. Ian tended to avoid the basketball program. Except in my case. He hired a fundraiser, since he sucked. And the fundraiser last a bit and left. But alums(Me and many others) passed the hat, organized, shared and reached out to Drew in the early days.

Always happy to help Drew and big alums stepped in too.

After a nice grass roots effort for the basketball program that included fundraising, that sum***** gave away our tickets.

F that guy.

Alice, Alice, Alice,

Where did I say he broke down in front of the board? I pasted an article that reported it this way. Why does it matter though? Maybe he should have shown some emotion and regret.

I've been told that the heavy toll of screwing up the UT interview, the long overdue and mounting unchecked discipline problems coming home to roost and realizing his true value to Baylor the institution was not quite as important as he believed finally got to him.

All of the brown nosing, Touch The Robe alumni that tripped over each other's dicks trying to be on Art's inner circle should have had one member with the smarts to pull Art aside around 2011 or 2012 and told him just how far he can push Baylor the university around going forward. Art needed coaching and guidance on the Baylor Way.

You Robe Clingers screwed us too in a very real way!

Kind of off topic, but Liberty Football is 4-0 and currently pounding Syracuse. Dem boys aren't scared of P5 or Covid-19.

I never said I was an AD.

I did, however, say that I could see where Art was headed back around 2011 - 2012 and could have given him some great advice on how to weather the occasional Baylor storms based on personal experience and having served a term on the old Baylor Alumni Association which gave me another peephole into Baylor Corporate structure and getting to see how some sausage was made.

I know a little bit of what I am talking about. I've been in similar situations albeit much smaller before. I've gone before multiple BU deans on more than one occasion as both a football player and as a fraternity president. The bottom line is that many of us have weathered Baylor storms over the years and many of you guys could see where the lack of discipline and hands off approach was taking us. The troubles looming were inevitable but winning after losing for so long is like becoming a meth addict.

You had to strike a middle ground between becoming a full blown addict to Ws to the point you lose ALL of your moral compass and being an occasional user who does not mind spending a few $$$ and keeping your tracks out of view of the public.

Baylor University was a few rungs up the ladder from Stephenville High, Texas Tech and U of Houston. I don't think Art understood the differences.

I first met Art in December of 1976. I was being recruited by U of H and he was assigned to me as my host for that weekend. It was my first on campus visit. All of my other visits came after Christmas break. I was only around him for a few hours.

Never saw or talked to him again until the Spring of 2008 shortly after he was hired as our coach. I only spoke to him at the Baylor Lettermen's Golf Tourney for a few minutes asking him if he remembered what we did on my visit to the Cougars.

Our next meeting was March 23 or 25, 2012 in Atlanta at the NCAA South Regional Finals vs. either Xavier or Kentucky. Can't recall which game it was. He and RG3 were walking to their seats and my son and I stopped and had a 15 second conversation as it was a mob scene. He was swamped. I did not get the feeling that he remembered me. No big deal.

Even though I was fortunate to have played at every level of football there is, I have never felt I was qualified to coach or offer any advice to a coach. Since I left my playing days for Baylor on January 1, 1981 I have had the occasion to sit in Grant Teaff's office, Chuck Reedy's office & Kevin Steele's office. I did not ask to enter their offices, I was asked to come in and visit by them. I was never asked for advice but would have given them my opinions if asked. My professional career afforded me an opportunity to observe & learn from head coaches Dick Vermeil, Jim Hanifan, George Allen & Rollie Dotsch. Behind these head coaches I spent time with a multitude of DC's and position coaches from 2 NFL teams and 2 USFL teams.

If asked by any of these coaches or Art I would have given them my thoughts. The questions never came and I am not the type of person to proactively seek out and then tell a highly paid coach how to coach or manage their teams.

If he had asked, I surely would have told him.

Is any amount worth your reputation?

Now, he probably had no idea his career was done when he took the buyout, but anybody with a grasp of reality would have told him that.

You make questionable assumptions. I'm about Art's age. A multi-million dollar payday that secured my and my family's financial future sounds pretty good to me. Especially considering that the damage to his reputation was already done and presumably he understood his coaching career was effectively over regardless of guilt or innocence, I think it makes perfect sense to take the money. Just common sense.

You can thank Paige Patterson and assorted fundamentalists for causing Reynolds to push for changes in the BOR selection process. Ironic how things play out sometimes. Unanticipated consequences and all that.

Yep, and with compounding, controlled spending, that $17 million hits the $30 million mark if he has some time on his hands and doesn't need the principal right away.

Art's laughing all the way to the bank, he needs neither our money nor sympathy.

It's rare that I can read six pages on this board, on any football-related subject, and not be moved to express an opinion. As much as I've read on this subject matter for four years, I still don't know enough to have an opinion on the specific players and/or institutional failures involved, outside of my disdain for how Title IX was interpreted and enforced during the time of the controversy. With over 40 years in the military and law enforcement, I've learned that trifling with due process only results in monumental crap shows and justice served only by accident.
