According to The Athletic's Joseph Person, Panthers owner David Tepper feels a lot of regret about giving head coach Matt Rhule a massive contract when he was hired in 2020.

Rhule was hired in Carolina in 2020 after overseeing quick turnarounds at Temple and Baylor, but sources say owner David Tepper is unhappy and embarrassed after the $16 billion hedge fund manager gave Rhule a seven-year, $62 million deal to outbid the New York Giants for his services.
He's worth ten billion so he's got it to lose.

But he will know all he needs to know by the middle of next season. Which is to say he has about six months to do whatever he's gonna do.

The NFL is brutal, I'd give it a 75% probability he gets canned.

It pays to bs. Hopefully Rhoades has learned to negotiate better.

With a story like that coming out it makes it feel like Rhule is already a lame duck. May make it more challenging for him to command the locker room.

Agree. My number may be low. In fairness to Tepper, he may not. Know football but he negotiates money and contracts all day, Rest assured he raked Matt over the coals for the first time in his career,

And Tepper will play dirty and be vindictive as hell if he wants out of the contract.

Matt will be lucky to get the hell out with his tail intact.

After watching the D last night I'm thankful for what Rhule gave to us. Now could he have won the game? I dunno but neither do his detractors. I'm just beyond happy with our programs, top to bottom except for baseball lol.

Lost to NO today. That is 6 losses in a row. They will have good draft position.

It's good if he can keep the locker room, but he is gonna have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to fix that offense.

Nothing against him but unless he pitches a real scheme change, I'd punt on him.

Looks like he's staying:

May try to get Jay Gruden for OC:

Matt Rhule is much like Kevin Steele. He is going to fail and stumble upwards. Trust the process!!!!

Matt Rhule is just like Kevin Steele ... except that he had three 10-win seasons in seven as a college head coach and reached bowl eligibility in five.

Such an idiotic comparison.

Don't you worry about Matt Rhule. He is making bank. Win or lose. In the the sports world in 2022 , winning is optional.

*** does Temple have to do with this thread other then his success at both schools. For god's sake man he took a depleted team to the Sugar in three years and handed DCA a great class. *** is your beef with his success for us?

I wish Matt Rhule and his family the very best. No hard feelings. He knows how to play the system and I commend him for it. He is one of the smart ones.

C'mon man, you have to admit calling him the next Kevin Steele is a huge reach at best. Rhule has an infinitely better track record as a collegiate HC than Steele.

With all due respect, Kevin Steele never went 1-11. And he SUCKED! Matt Rhule earned the comparison. Rhule had a whole lot of luck. He was a mercenary and that is okay. Really not that uncommon these days.

Because Steele never played a 12-game schedule. He went 1-10 his first year at Baylor.

Unlike Rhule, he followed that up with two, three and three wins before being fired.

Yes.No argument here. Rhule tanked his first season to build himself up. And it seems most Baylor fans bought into it. Kevin Steele was a ****ty coach, but he never took a dive.
