After a couple of years in Waco it's time to find 'our place'. For reference when living in Flower Mound it was Christina's, a place we went to about twice a month. Requirement is free chips and salsa and an above adequate top shelf margarita.

Give me your best recommendation please. We live on the north side off Gholson Rd. so bonus if location is north of let's say 30th street.

Please don't say Ninfa's.

El Conquistador is our family favorite. Location in Bellmead near the American Bank & location on Waco Dr. near New Road. Not sure about margarita rating.

Man, I used to love Hecho. But, the last couple of times we went it has gone downhill. Old food on the wall, terrible service, warm beer.

Thank you, been there several times and it's been inconsistent and way too many Silo visitors.

I dine at El Con (west Waco) at least once a week. I think they are the tops in town for TexMex. The Gonzales family has been in business for 50+ years. What a great family success story!

Not sure if this is up your alley, but our go-tos are (in descending order of hole in the wallness):

Lupitas
The Ranchito
Rufis Cocina

Edit: didn't see the margarita consideration. I can't help with that, unfortunately.

Taqueria El Mexicano Grill in Bellmead (across I35 from Walmart) used to be really good. Some of the best margaritas. But I haven't been in years. Very much a dive but very good

Just a suggestion ,taking your location into consideration...First, El Con has always been our family favorite..Great folks and great food...We've also found Abuelita's to be of consistently good quality..You can enjoy the scenic drive around Lake Shore Dr. back into town and reach Abuelita's just before you get to Bosque Blvd. It's in the strip center next to Auto Nation. ( Corner of N. Valley Mills Dr. and Bosque). Haven't been in a few months, but our last trip was very good..(food and drink) If you choose to try it, hope your experience is as good as ours has been.

Rufi's Cocina on 25th St. is the best Mexican in town. It's not Tex Mexy, it's more interior Mexican, but good lord almighty is it good.

  • Best classic Tex-Mex in Waco is for sure Los Cucos.
  • Rufi's Cocina on 25th St. is best true Mexican food in town.
  • Best hole in the wall is El Crucero. Great breakfast burritos too.

One of if not the most overrated spots in Waco. They don't know what seasoning is on fajitas & their prices don't match the quality. One of those places people go when visiting from out of town because they simply don't know any better.

Hecho is great, but parking is bad right now with the AC under construction.

$13 margarita pitchers on Sundays, btw.

Also, try Abuelita's in the old Pancho's space at Valley Mills Drive and Bosque. They have some great quesadillas.

The owner/chef of Siete Mares now operates Sergio's downtown Waco at 608 Austin. Much of the same menu but a shorter version. It is only open Friday and Saturday nights but is very good.

Thanks for the update. He's got a great family. My daughter and one of his were great friends during their high school days.

La Fiesta (Corner Valley Mills & Franklin) is pretty good Tex-Mex. I believe they still only allow you to have two margarita's due to alcohol content.

One of the negatives for me is about the place now is that they use to get their chips from Jesse's Tortilla factory (as did other restaurants in the area), but they had a fire while back and La Fiesta has been buying their chips from a different supplier.

Their salsa is hot enough to make my nose run sometimes. Love it.

I used to like LaFi, but their food quality is alarmingly subpar and has been for 10-15 years now.

this! Better than Ninfas for sure but honestly just meh & another place people go because they just don't know any better..

And any place that limits how many margs I can order is lame.

And a food truck, 1 block North the rest of the week. Siete Mares was a favorite after games at Floyd Casey.

They're BYOB, but I'm not sure that they'd let me bring in a couple of pitchers of margs.
