Is "Magnolia" still a thing? I'm definitely not in the target demo, but I have not heard of a soul making a trip to "the Silos" in years. Do people still pilgrimage to Waco to buy cheap Chinese **** marked up with Jo Jo's tag or are we back to her peddling Firestone?

Yea still a thing. And sells plenty of local made items from Waco artisans.

Hard to believe that was the old child support court.

None of those mothers could afford this place...

This was built by the karem Shrine and sold as part of a scheme to sell the potentate's land out in China Spring in a HUGE controversy. That chestboard floor is the floor of a masonic blue lodge. The shrine has never returned to its former glory as a Waco organization since the unfortunate move to the outskirts of Waco.
You will notice very little mention of the solely Masonic history of the new hotel by it's new owners due to the apparent fear of scaring idiots away with the supposedly occultist bendings of freemasonry.

And for those dumbasses on this board who wish to argue the that Masons are going to hell like my frat brother did to me during pledging, I will just add that not only every president of Baylor prior to sloan was a mason, the namesake of our seminary was a mason, on and on.,

Oh, and I forgot to mention,

It sure was fun going through my York Rite degrees with coach teaff.

Mic drop.

I stopped by on a whim last night. Since I was only strolling through I didn't see one of the rooms. The rooftop bar was excellent and considerably bigger than I expected. I can see it becoming a go-to destination for all kinds of receptions/reunions. The wee dram of Balcones Blue hit the spot too.

Wife and I went and ate at the hotel last week. The interior is stunning, truly incredible that something like that exists in Waco. The library has to be seen to be believed.

Went last night. Drinks on the rooftop. Holy Toledo. Will be our new go to for drinks and coffee. Absolutely amazing. Also hung out in the library.

It's got to be because they don't want to disrupt people staying there

Had brunch opening weekend, it was good not the best avocado toast or eggs Benedict we've ever eaten but far from the worst.

Going for dinner Monday night, group of 6 so we should see a variety and I'll report back.

We had dinner upstairs last night. Food was excellent. As many have said, the place looks amazing. As previously stated, closing the rooftop bar at 10pm on a Saturday night is quite strange whether it is a hotel or not. Good experience overall

Yeah I agree. Should at least be 11pm. Guess we just have to start earlier.

Dinner tonight at Bernie's was fabulous. All six of us were happy with our food including pimento cheese, BURRATA PANZANELLA, kale Cesar, butternut squash soup, salmon, chicken and WILD MUSHROOM & LEEK RISOTTO. Place was full, turning away people without reservations and there were easily 2 dozen people out on the terrace (outside bar).

Never understood the hate for folks who hit the reset button on the otherwise dead downtown next to the campu most of us love. I hope they last as long as possible.

Another whiff.

Never stepped foot on the premises, except back in the pre-Magnolia days...and never spent a penny.

I am coming in for the scheduled opening game at Foster on Jan 2nd and that is my birthday so I have a reminder on my calendar to make a dinner reservation that night before the game. They don't have reservations that far out yet.

I believe they do 30 days out. I ran into that booking for brunch Christmas Eve. Be sure to book Bernie's which is the upstairs. I say that, but haven't yet eaten downstairs which I'm sure is lovely too.

Just watched the first episode of Fixer Upper | The Hotel on Max and it's honestly pretty interesting. I'm a nerd civil engineer so I find the construction of it fun to watch. Lots of history in the building that they kept.

Had dinner at Bertie's on Thursday. Good food and great ambiance. The hotel is a great addition to Waco, with an outstanding rooftop bar. Food is good. Not 135 prime or Di Camplis, but good. Will be back for sure. Very classy place.
