Had dinner at Bertie's on Thursday. Good food and great ambiance. The hotel is a great addition to Waco, with an outstanding rooftop bar. Food is good. Not 135 prime or Di Camplis, but good. Will be back for sure. Very classy place.
What would you say are the 10 best "nice" restaurants in Waco these days?

135 Prime
Di Camplis
1424
Pignettis
Morosos
Berties

Not sure I can get to 10?

Diamondbacks is on the list somewhere, but I'm guessing near the bottom unless it's changed in the last 4-5 years. If we're spending big then it's easily 135 Prime every time.
Noooo evidence for that, babeeyyy, just maaade it up.

When I moved away from Waco not that long ago, the list only got to about 5. So moving in the right direction!

Talking about The Butcher's cellar? The people that own The Findery (corner across from Silo's coffee).

I am hopeful about this one. Supposedly have hired some really talented chefs.

Good list provided on this thread. Diamondbacks consistently is underwhelming. We never eat there anymore after 5 or more lack luster dinners. The only thing worth the money on their menu in my opinion is the crab fried rice, and a few of their deserts.

Oak and Ivy is a good comparison in food quality to 1928 but the ambiance easily puts 1928 over it.

If you are looking for nice, I would rotate between these:

135 prime
Di Camplis
Pignettis
1928

In that order, and all great options.

I guess I need to give DiCamplis another shot. I've been there several times and was never impressed. Food was never great and the open bar area adjacent to eating area seemed to be the Waco pickup zone.

Cobbled these together in no particular order. Amazing we can get to 10. I remember when it was 1 or 2 ... for a long time.

135 Prime
Di Camplis
1424
Pignettis
Morosos
Berties
Diamondbacks
Oak & Ivy

Rooftop restaurant was just ok, limited choices and kind of pricy. Cheeseburger with fries was $25. Bourbon prices from the bar downstairs were not bad. The bar out on the roof is very nice and it was a beautiful night last night before the game. I think I will change my dinner on the 2nd to Di Camplis and got to the rooftop bar after the game.

There is also a new steakhouse in the Cambria hotel on MLK.

Believe it is called the BLVD. Supposedly better than diamondbacks.

Yes, had dinner with someone last night who has been there. She said it is VERY good, expensive but VERY good.

That was my take. We rolled through Z's at the curry tonight, and then over to 1928. The rooftop bar was taken up by an event. Downstairs bar was fun. Place was busy. But menu was kind of limited. Cocktails were good. Price point is high for Waco, but not at all bad for Dallas or Austin. Place has quality drinks and food and a great feel.

What I've heard is the seabass is the best thing on the menu at Bertie's. I am going there on Saturday and will report back.

My dining experience at Hotel 1928 was very average.

The Hotel itself was outstanding. Very well done. But the dining doesn't match 135 or DiCamplis. The menu is closer to George's than fine dining.

I've had the seabass twice and been very pleased both times.

The wife and I went to The Brasserie tonight at 1928. We got reservations on Monday. Bertie's was booked up. The steak and fries was good. The tequila cocktail was good. The Malbec was from Texas. We were not impressed. I tried to order 3 Nation's bock, but they were out. It was a good experience and the food was good. I wish they had a better selection of appetizers. I would definitely go back.

Seabass was good, glad I got it. They could do about 1/2 of the flavor and it would be better. It was almost too much. As others have said, you can get better food for the same or cheaper elsewhere. But you can't do better than the atmosphere. When the weather is nice, the rooftop is going to be a one of a kind experience for Waco.

Went Wednesday night…. I liked it!
Had the pork chop… was great. Wife had the salmon and she was pleased.

The thing that underwhelmed was the Dr Pepper cake-thing dessert. Usually desserts are large … somewhat small… but we shared anyway

New Magnolia brand hotel downtown is now taking reservations, opening in October. Looks like rooms start at $375 and they look beautiful!
Let's rip some people off.

Comparable rates per night in Downtown Waco for October:

Indigo $465
Cambria $399
Holiday Inn $327
Towneplace Suites $314
Fairfield $279
Hampton Inn $269
La Quinta $255

Not a bad rate compared to market…
Dang, is that for football Saturdays? Or are we always so high?

I stayed in in the Indigo two months ago on a weeknight and it was right at 100.
I have found theres only two ways to go:

Dang..100 is far less than I thought possible...Did you check in with the real Desk Clerk? :-) I didn't think you could sleep behind the ice machine for a bill.. Good job! Edit: Did some online pricing, and it is indeed much less than I assumed...Wonder what kind of occupancy rates they are experiencing downtown now...
