The city is hearing a proposal from Hunt Development to uncover Barron's Creek and add a plaza along Jefferson tween downtown and the large, historical Catholic Church.

This will be the start of an extensive downtown development to raze the current convention center, move it to a new location on the river (where Ben E Keith is now), create a"village green mall" from the Brazos to City Hall, add new City and ISD offices, and potentially add a minor league ballpark.

Minor league baseball was very successful in Waco until the tornado wrecked the stadium. They must think putting a new team in Waco will have similar results 70+ years later.

I agree. Feel like minor league soccer would do better in Waco and not occur during brutal summers.

If you have to do baseball, might have to do it Banana style.

If the tornado never happened, set us back 50 years
I'm happy now they focused on making the city better and bring us to the 21st-century

A lower minor league team might be a hit

This could be said about every small and midsize town in 15 states. Baseball is a hit with kids and teens all over the south but minor league baseball is not.

MiLB would be huge for Waco, but I fully expect it would be a bad Indy team.

I would start a petition for a Bananas affiliate but I'm not a resident.

I decided to attend meeting, see if that even gets mentioned as an Indy option.

Thanks for posting. This is great insight into what is being pitched to the City Council.

Looks like downtown ballpark is last on their list, around 2036.

Presenters discussed that all other are required to be sequential but Ball Park could be at any time, expected that minor league expansion in '29 is best opportunity and would flow if phase up to 3 are completed. 1a is required for infractions and flood plain revision.

Well, I went set on the city Council meeting honestly what they wanna do if Waco is really gonna be good. It's gonna give us our own identity and focus on the river as our assets excited to see what the next 10 years bring

Waco doesn't support Baylor baseball. Will they support a minor league team after the honeymoon phase is over? I'd bet no.

This sounds like city development folks just chasing their own personal preferences IMO.

But I'd admit, a baseball stadium in downtown would be aesthetically pleasing!

With its projected population growth Waco could possibly be big enough to support a minor league team in 2036. At its current size, it can't. Building a ballpark that could sit empty doesn't make sense.

The Mary Ave section with the new convention center, performing arts center, and hotel is the most exciting piece to me.

Glad the pedestrian bridge idea is still around. With a couple of concessionaires and shade coverings, it could be a really cool destination literally on top of the areas greatest asset. Views toward Foster would be incredible and could provide a pedestrian link to McLane.

It would also improve opportunities across the river from Foster Pavilion.

We need a PAC much more than a ballpark so if we only get one it needs to be the PAC.
