Hickory Stick, George's Surf and Sirloin, Nick's, Sam Coats, all were really good. Never ate much at the Chicken Shack.

I loved the Smokehouse. Also the one closer to Collins where you could choose the music at your table, The Chuckwagon?

Saddest to go . . . The original Elite on the Circle. I hear it's been taken over by somebody selling biscuits and gravy for $13.95.

Anytime I went in the Elite since about...2011, I was about the only person in there, which given the decline in quality of the menu and service, was not altogether unsurprising. Place was dying in a hurry.

The Elite of course. I'm thinking the 86-91 version. Particularly the late 80s. It had just been newly renovated and reopened around the tail end of 85 or beginning of 86 by Sammy Citrano who now has Georges. The Elite was great and always packed during this era.

The Elite I was referring to was late sixties, open 24 hours for late night studying over a hot turkey sandwich, open-faced. Greeted by Maitre 'd, Tommy Bakos who had a plastic hand and owned dozens of rent houses around Baylor. Waffle fried potatoes.

Most of these places are long gone and I only know by reputation. A more recent departure was Nizza Pizza by Baylor. I thought it was pretty good.

For nostalgia purposes, I miss Giovannis. I have no idea if the pizza was good or not, but I always had a good time eating their pizza.
