The biggest problem I saw with this game was we were not prepared at all for the turn up in intensity coming out of halftime.

FWIW, we outscored them 77-68 when I wasn't watching.

Unfortunately, the only part I watched was from the 17 minute mark to the 11 minute mark of the 2nd half.

As expected lots of Chicken Littles emerging on this thread but Virginia is a final 4 caliber team so this loss can be a catalyst. Coaches can work on things all day in practice but until the players feel the sting of losing, it might not sink in. Team defense is a function of cohesiveness and connectedness we are obviously a work in progress which is natural and expected with all the new faces. The lessons from this game will allow our staff to drive home the points they have been making in practice and get the players to buy in with more urgency.

Personnel-wise I think Josh O is farther away from contributing than I originally thought after the three warmup games. He looked like a deer in headlights and might only be able to play situationally against this caliber of competition, at least early on. I think we might need to see Lohner playing a lof of small ball 5 when Flo is out of the game. Love doesn't look 100% back from rehab so will remain a distant 9th guy in the rotation unless something changes. Bridges looked lethargic I wouldn't be surprised to hear he's under the weather.

I think the 2nd half proves Keyonte will be the engine that drives our team. He is special! His intangibles are off the charts! Basketball IQ, demeanor, competitiveness, unselfishness, and despite being our most talented offensive player he is also our best glue guy doing all the little things like drawing charges. I hope Baylor fans appreciate the time we have him. Give him the ball, get out the way and let him penetrate and score, draw a foul or hit shooters for open looks. First half we were playing from the outside-in, Keyonte's ability to penetrate allows us to play from the inside-out....always a recipe for higher shooting %s from the perimeter.

I kinda think that's why they are probably going to play him more minutes in some of these non-conference games that don't mean a lot in order to get him some experience (and obviously because Flo was in foul trouble), but I won't be surprised to see Lohner and small ball in the conference particularly early on since none of the top teams, sans TCU, really have as much size as they normally do.

It's pretty evident Josh O got his first schooling at how much faster bigs at this high of a level move on both O and D. And, to a degree, Keyonte got a bit of wakeup call with his casual ball handling (5 TOs) that worked in AAU ball but isn't gonna cut it against this level or when he moves to the next. He's always gonna be able to create and score because he's so friggin' talented. Now he can work on valuing possessions and D, where he was lost at times tonight. The great news is he's the type of young man who WILL focus on those things and work on them.

But as I said in my posts before the game, win or lose that's what these games are for -- to let you know where you stand and what you need to work on. I won't be surprised to see something similar Sunday. Hopefully not, but if we do it can be just another block in building a path to get better for the rest of the season.

Reminder that we lost to Washington and then proceeded to have a season that would have landed us a No. 1 seed were it not for COVID.

People need to chill out.

Yeah I don't see too much to worry about here. just didn't match their intensity out of halftime. Think there's a lot to learn from this game. For instance think we should run even more pick and rolls with Keyonte. worked quite well at least 3 times in our comeback and thought we would have used it more towards the end but we took him out at 5:20min to save him for the final 4min which I found really odd.

He had picked up his 4th foul.

yes I know that. I was saying it didn't make much sense down 10 especially with him being a big part of the comeback

That Virginia team is going to be tough in the ACC

I didn't know but they return 91% of their scoring from last year
