So how many wins? 8??! So we have to go 8-8 rest of the way? 8-10 May get us in. This looks like a 7-11 team right now. Not sure that gets Baylor in nor should it

Second weekend? Where do you think we are going to get the wins? I can see 5 maybe 6 wins. No tournament this year

The curse of being picked as pre season champs in football and basketball. Baylor does much better coming from behind.

You mean Keyonte or are you talking about Josh? Instead of trying to tap it in, Josh came down with the ball. because he was stumbling. I thought there was a fraction of a second that he threw the ball in the air as the horn sounded, but maybe I didn't hear it or see it correctly?

Hey folks. Our team has some issues, but apparently so does uconn, Miami, and Duke .. all higher ranked than us and losers tonight. Peace.

Drew always has a reason for doing what he does. The thing I'm interested in hearing him address is why we kept pressing when it was obvious we weren't very effective at it and it was just resulting in one layup after another. Yet we wouldn't change. That's the one puzzling question I have for this game.

Win or lose this team is embarrassingly bad defensively. Ceiling is ridiculously low

Crazy part is the defense was tremendous in the first half. Maybe the announcers were correct & the players just ran out of gas. If so, it's going to be a long season.

So far in conference play, we've seen:

1. An absolute blowout on the road
2. A horrific 17-point choke at home

Forget the tournament right now, where can we win a game with this defense?

Didn't catch the first half but didn't we give up 39?! If that's true we hardly played great defense in the first half.

We can beat anyone in this league, and anyone can beat us.

I'm old enough to remember a season we started off 2-7 in the Big 12, people were calling for a change at HC, and we rebounded to make the Sweet 16.

Calm your buttholes, people.

I'm talking KG going off two. Josh O tried a tip, he didn't really have time to come down and then go up.

So close to being a legendary play!

Despite being in a profession that requires on the fly changes, coaches are some of the most stubborn people on the planet.

No excuse for this loss.

This team is not going to a second round without a much better transition defense

I honestly believe it is optimistic to think this team makes the tournament. Completely lack "killer" instinct.
If we lose Saturday at home to a very good Kansas State, then we have serious concerns. A 20-win season still matters, and we will be hard pressed to get there.

Bottom line is we all knew tonight was a gut check.

We failed .

When we can't protect a 17 point lead at home against TCU, we won't win much, period.

Yes. It's interesting. No way he just said "hey let's just randomly press a great transition team and see what happens." But whatever he thought would happen (turnovers maybe?) never happened.

No excuse needed. This team is just not very good, especially on the defensive end.

They are good defensively. They did a great job in the first half & against Gonzaga. They are not good consistently. I guess, in the end, the result is the same. But I would think the problem is fixable.

They also need to rebound much better than they have been doing in recent games.

KSU is the exact type of team will struggle with. Teams with elite guards who can get into the paint will be Baylor's Achilles heel all season. Unfortunately there's some pretty damm good guards in the B12

Missed shots could have had a lot to do with it as well. They lead to transition points. We didn't miss much in the first half.

I thought we'd bounce back well from Saturday's loss. And for a half, we did. But you can't just stop playing defense at halftime and expect to win.

And, as the announcers kept repeating, we had no transition points. (Or defense)

We're in absolutely no danger of missing the tourney. Stop this silly narrative.

Getting to weekend #2 is an entirely different story.

If you believe this you are either delusional or know nothing of the game of basketball. Where do you see 10 more wins?
We don't need 10 more wins to make the tournament. An 8-10 conference record probably gets us in this league.
IowaBear

Admittedly missed most of the game. But we also stopped hitting 3s at least at the percentage we did in the first half. This team night in and night out is going to have to light it up from deep to beat most teams. Not a great recipe

The difference between this team and that team is a 7' 1" center that was productive offensively and that team was coming off an NIT championship, not a second-round exit after a National Championship.

Many in the thread thought we were out of shape.

I don't buy it… I think it was more metal. Shots don't go in - our energy got low. And part strategic - no reason we should've continued to press.

The roster has so many flaws. I think Drew needs to start Ojianwuna over Thamba and even experiment with a four guard line-up.
If you think our defense is bad now, just wait until we trot four guards out there.

That kind of turnaround is possible (let's pray we don't get to 2-7), but this is the worst defensive team Drew has had since the Jerrells-Dugat-Rogers days. It's going to be hard to win in this league defending at the level we currently are.

I think it's time to start incorporating some zone -- at least in games like tonight's where we can't keep a bad outside shooting team out of the lane.

The end of this game was like a flashback to our football game with TCU this past season. I knew when Shapen didn't throw that pass to a wide open Sims and we punted with them having time to get into field goal range we were going to lose it and similarly when we didn't score and they had the ball with 10.1 seconds to go down 1 I knew we were going to lose it. Just gut wrenching both times and you could see it coming.

No, we're bad. We're down to 62nd in defensive efficiency by KenPom -- the sixth-worst number among teams ranked in the top 30 overall. The good defensive games are the exception this year.

I mean, I'd take a second round exit over an NIT Championship every single day. I don't see how that's a mark against this squad.

We're going to score a lot on K-State, which is even worse defensively than we are. It will be a shootout.

It's more pointing out that this team is two years removed from a national championship and has regressed by a lot compared to last season's heavily injured team that still advanced to the second round. The current form of this team is a 6/11 upset loss

What gets to most of us, I think, is that we were really hoping that Drew could give Baylor a bright spring after a really disappointing football season, not give us a second nightmare .

What do we have to look forward to? Not our baseball team.
