How did Arkansas fans have such great seats?

I knew there would be a good amount of them but they had some great seats

They got the tickets from Baylor season ticket holders I guess. It was very disappointing.

One would hope if a Baylor fan was not coming, they would get the tickets to another Baylor fan.

To be fair, there were a number of Hogs fans in line 90 minutes prior to tip, but not in the numbers that would give them the best GA seats down low.

Huge charter buses with the Cowboys star arrived about 90 minutes before tip. They let them in the media entrance before BBF members and season seat holders. Some had reserved seats, some GA.

Our SID had a smartass answer that it is "standard operating procedure." Well, genius, its not standard to have General Admission in most P5 venues.

For the Monday game against the birds, doors opened well before the announced "one hour before tipoff." It's a mystery what you're going to get with our athletic department - apparently varying game by game - but you can be certain we treat the visitors much better than BU fans would be treated in an opposing venue.

I'm confused...other schools treat visitors crappy...so we should to?

There's probably a way to treat visitors well without giving them the best seats in your gym. That sounded like an Arkansas home game at several points throughout the game.

How hard would it be to reserve a couple of non-prime sections for the early arriving visiting fans. Giving them precedence over your home fans in a general admission setting seems pretty lame.

Low IQ response. Not surprised.

Y'all are talking like you don't know anything about the Baylor fan base. This is who we are.

Was general admission for this game only?
Or is that now the case all the time?

Seems like a strange (and probably stupid) setup if you want any kind of home court advantage.

This has nothing to do with the Baylor fan base. The athletic department allowed a large visiting group into the arena before it opened the gym to anyone else. In a general admission setting, that's a problem.

Baylor fans were waiting to enter while visiting fans were allowed by the university to snatch up prime seats.

It's GA above the walkway every game I think, although some season ticket holders sit above that too.

I'm just happy all those Arkansas fans got to see their team lose to Baylor. And that I was there to witness it myself.
Well I ain't no greenhorn!!

GA seats are not prime seats. Hogs sitting in the prime seats got them from our season ticket holders.

Our ticket office doesn't get it. They need to fire a few people and start over.

Don't ever discuss anything with them via phone, keep it to email.

This is Rhoades responsibility, he needs to fix it.

Everything in this post is true.

The attitude of the Athletic Department employees I spoke with was IMO unprofessional.

Our leaders just flush money down the drain and our coaches even notice it.

Hopefully with the drastically downsized new arena the seats won't be there for opposing fans of teams that travel well - although if no-show season ticket holders continue to sell them on the open secondary market in significant numbers, who knows.

Ok whatever..I don't see how Baylor is responsible for season ticket holders selling their tickets to Hog fans .

General Admission are not 'good seats ' in Ferrell..so if they get there early how are you going to refuse them seat

There needs to be a set % of required attendance to retain your season tickets. Screw these people who are sitting on tickets each year and only attend a few games. Let folks who are willing to come support the team for ALL the games access to these tickets. If you are not able to attend, the tickets then go back to a Baylor pool for BU fans to purchase/claim. English Soccer does the same thing....Ensures a true home game audience..

Why doesn't someone or several people Organize and call into smokys show and make this a public discussion?

It's amazing after all Baylor's success how small time
The operation continues to be in many ways.

We have a national championship program. We have a 10,000 seat arena, and we never sell it out. It's all on the fan base.

They didn't "get there early." They were let in before waiting Baylor fans.

And in a 10,000-seat arena with more than 8,000 general admission seats, there are plenty of "good seats" in those sections.

Welcome to basketball in Texas. The University of Texas -- an institution with almost 52,000 students and more than 570,000 living alums, now has a 10,000-seat basketball arena.

The Ferrell Center is way too large for our needs.

GA has been standard policy for at least a few years. That's how I had season tickets in 2019 & 2021.

Nice idea, in theory, but Baylor fans don't consistently support MBB, WBB, or even football for that to be a viable option. The athletic department still must make as much $$$ as possible from every source. Then they still hit up alums for donations.

Good reason to have a smaller arena.

Question: With the smaller arena and Baylor being a private school, is there any way, using technology, to require season ticket holders to either use them or notify the athletic department who they have given them to?

It doesn't seem unreasonable to be able to prohibit ticket holders from selling their tickets. I understand not being able to prohibit a ticket holder from giving tickets to whoever they want, but is it possible to prohibit them from selling them on the internet?

Just a question.

Probably not prohibit but create a way where they are more likely to go to true baylor fans. But there's no way to guarantee they don't give them to some hog friend etc anyway.

This has been true since I've followed Baylor athletics (late 80s). They view the majority of Baylor fans as peasants.

This is a pretty good summary, but I'll add a couple of things. There is a thread on the premium board - I think it's at 8 pages now with comments on this. David Kaye, to his credit, responded today and acknowledged that there were opportunities to improve but was adamant that only the Arkansas travel party got in early. What happened was many of them grabbed the best GA seats and saved seats for others that didn't have the early entry. It looks like the Cowboys bus crew were the beneficiaries of the saved GA seats. He kind of portrayed this situation as blown out of proportion, but that's easy to say when you don't have to bust your ass and run the gauntlet for a decent seat. Again, I appreciate David responding to the concerns in the premium thread, and Im not trying to fan any flames, but someone sent me a private message and asked that I post in this thread.

I wouldn't call it a nothing burger by any stretch. Definitely a frustrating situation and mistakes that gave prime seats to Arkansas fans over Baylor fans. I'm just saying they acknowledged this situation and not much else we can do at this point.

This is exactly why I miss aggy, Arkansas and will miss OUT. They were teams with huge fan bases that came to Waco and generally out yelled us in every sport. It took those teams to get our fans off their asses.

David Kaye is going to sing the party line, but the truth is, other universities reward their fans for filling the seats.
Baylor...well, who knows. That definition of 'general admission' is sorta flexible. Ask David about that one. In fact, ask him if you can pick out an exact seat and he give you the price and when it's available. Fans aren't going to drive hours and then hope they get a seat that's unimpeded by a visiting team fan.

This goes waaaaay beyond a single game, it also goes to the empty seats that are visible in Big12 conference games. Our coaches notice this, and it conveys the message that the fans don't support their program.

This is our AD's problem. He gets paid plenty of money, he needs to get his hands dirty and fix it.
Fre3dombear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
This has never been fixed ever at baylor. Not sure what enrollment and living alums have to get to formit not to be a problem, but we've made generally dumb ticketing and seat placement decisions for generations.

It's a hold over from baylor not taking sports seriously for oh, about 110 years.

nah this is a fanbase problem. any other school with a top 10 program competing at a natty level could have a potted plant running AD and they'd sell out every game. It's not admins fault fans don't show out.
